    .223 Case length issue

Found the problem. Built up lube on the expander ball in the size die was causing a large neck. Cleaned it up and now no crimp is needed and case length is less relevant, I've been able to seat cases as long as 1.770 without trouble. Thanks again-

    .223 Case length issue

I'm just setting up to load .223 and ran into a snag. I have to cut the case length down to 1.745" to get the die (brand new Hornady die) to crimp the neck without collapsing the shoulder. If I leave the die adjusted to the point where it won't collapse the shoulder with 1.760" case length...

    economics of reloading

I think that's a pretty good price for match grade ammo. Not if you are plinking/training/practicing. I've never spent $35/1K on primers, this seems very high to me. There are LOTS of cheaper solution for bullets, should be able to get that down to more like $0.15-0.20/ea. I think you should...

    Could the M1 Garand been...

Don't forget beefing it up such that cracking a German over the noodle wouldn't break the stock, this is a battle rifle- not a hunting rifle.

is the .338 beyond North America's Needs?

Some good posts in my directionless thread, I love the rifle but that might have more to do with the rifle than the caliber. I might start a quest for a good download for my .338WM, or at least a smaller bullet with less explosive characteristics. I think the Accubond is just a little much...

    Mannlicher Stocks????

I own a CZ 452 in 22lr with a Manlicher stock, it is now my favorite gun (sometimes, I have a few favorites) and a few milsurps which are similar. Actually I'm kinda in love with full-length stocks, they are just fantastic. As far as advantages, I find the full length stock to be a HUGE...

is the .338 beyond North America's Needs?

Pardon my bluntness, but that's just 4 kinds of stupid. I shoot the swede well and I shoot the .338 pretty well. Offhand I actually shoot the .338 better because of the balance and fit, at the bench I get battered by the #1 and love the swede. Hitting in the hips was not a matter of elevation...

is the .338 beyond North America's Needs?

Thanks all, I was very surprised, astounded, at the amount of damage done by the Accubond from the .338 compared to everything else I've seen, including the .300WM with unknown bullet type. I do know that the .300WM was using factory ammo, but I doubt it was premium stuff at that. Anyway, a...

is the .338 beyond North America's Needs?

I just shot three mule deer over the past two days, and watched several others shot as well. These were does on depradation permits in hay fields. I typically shoot a custom-ish Swede with 140gr Partitions. This seems to be a great load, kills very dead and doesn't screw up a lot of meat...

Jim, why does the NRA care what you shoot?

Scope too far forward on Ruger #1

Geojap, that's a fantastic rifle, good grain in the butt stock and I love the full length forend.

Scope too far forward on Ruger #1

Yeah, if you search the single-shot forum at Accurate Reloading there is some discussion about them and a few pics of them installed. They seem to always be out of stock for the ones I needed, and I wan't crazy about the way they looked either. That said, I think the offset rings I have don't...

Scope too far forward on Ruger #1

You have a few options, with that large, garbage-can sized scope there really isn't much you can do, offset rings will bring the scope back but they are not tall enough (like you mentioned) to clear the rib. You will need to replace the rib if you want to keep that scope and move it back...

    Snap-shooting tips and training?

Slings are a really good point, and I have no answer. I've pretty much just used whatever I had, mostly for hauling and not for shooting. Any suggestions on slings? I need a decent sling for three different rifles anyway, I might as well focus on shoot-ability with it.

    Snap-shooting tips and training?

I'm getting ready for this falls hunts, and because this year I'm finally out of grad school and only working full time I have a lot more time and money to get ready for the elk and deer hunts. I've been trying to practice what I call snap shooting, bringing the rifle up to my shoulder from...

    Yet another firearm rumor?

FWIW, before I knew how to check the internet for everything, I had a Sig 229 in .40 S&W that used polygonal rifling. I noticed that it leaded up really bat to the point where after a hundred or so shots I'd have curls of lead peeling out of the rifling. I took the barrel out and used a...

Hey Tuner, xray of 1911 firing

Hmm, or how a blank would work without drag on the barrel. I haven't read the entire post so pardon me for stepping in late. But there's a lot of typing gone by.

reloading for the Swedish Mauser 6.5 x 55

My load for my 1914, 1911 and sporterized Swede of unknown date is 47.5gr of R22 and a Nosler Partition or Sierra Game King. Both have the same POI and I have shot a 1" group with the 1911, 2 1/2" with the 1914 and 9/16" with the sporter, all at 100 yards. H4350 and 4831 have also been good...

    Ruger MK II extraction issues

I have an ancient MK II that I dragged out today and put about 100 rounds through. It's been semi-retired for years because of poor extraction. Thinking it might just be pretty dirty inside I soaked it in synthetic ATF overnight and completely dissembled it and cleaned every nook and cranny...
