    Anschutz rifle weight question

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to hijack my own thread, but here goes: does anyone have experience with the set trigger that's offered on the 1710?

    Anschutz rifle weight question

Do you think that's where the extra weight is, in the action? That seems like a hell of a lot of extra metal for a .22.

    Anschutz rifle weight question

It's 1416 Classic vs. 1710 Monte Carlo. 1416 Monte Carlo is available, but there's no weight listing for it. I'm interested in the open sight models, but in each case, there's a heavy barrel version available that weighs .2kg more. I'm asking about this because I plan on carrying this...

    Anschutz rifle weight question

I'm considering getting an Anschutz in .22LR. I'm still in the early research phase. I saw on the Anschutz web site that there's a big difference in weight between the 1416 models, at around 2.5kgs and the 1710 models, which weigh about a kilo more. The dimensions, barrels, and stock...

    Scope magnification for precision .22LR

I'm pricing out gear to get into precision .22LR shooting. 30'06 is too expensive any more. I'll be shooting at ranges of 50 to 200 yds. Hitting quarters at 100 yds consistently sounds like a lot of fun. What magnification do you need in order to do this? At what point does the next level of...

    Booby trapped surplus rifle ammo?

I once purchased a case of Czech 7.62x54r that would consistently keyhole at 50yds. But I'm sure that was just the result of fine Eastern Block QC. The Polish rounds shot fine.

    NCStar 15-40x Spotting Scope

A friend of mine bought that same spotting scope. I think he paid $40. Looks like he got ripped off. In any event, it's total junk. Yes, it'll probably let you see hits at 100 yds, but you're not going to enjoy doing so. The blue fringing was so bad that I'd rather take the time to walk to the...

How critical is a parallax adjustment or AO ?

From the Leupold Riflescope Owner's Manual: "Understanding Parallax Parallax is the apparent movement of the target relative to the reticle when you move your eye away from the center point of the eyepiece. It occurs when the image of the target does not fall on the same optical plane as the...

Leupold Sequoia / Green Ring Spotting Scopes?

Does anyone have any experience with these things? I searched and found a few brief mentions, but no real reviews. In particular, I'm interested in the 15-45x60 straight, but any info is appreciated. I've been very impressed with Leupold rifle scopes so far, but I have no experience with...

Are double rifles really that tough to make?

I've seen a few Valmet 412s on Gun Broker for about $1,000. They're used of course, since Valmet went out of business or got bought up, but they probably didn't sell for much more than that new. Thing is, they're O/U, not SxS. Is an O/U double easier to synch than a SxS?

Are double rifles really that tough to make?

It seems that whenever the subject of double rifles comes up, someone asks why they aren't common and then someone else points out that they're tough, i.e. difficult to make. The problem, apparently, is that it's a laborious process to "synchronize" the barrels in order to make a real...

    H&R/NEF vs. Savage Stevens 200

Savagearms.com lists prices. HR1871.com doesn't list prices. Comparing prices on Gun Broker reveals that H&R singles sell for about the same amount as Stevens 200s. It seems like the 200 is a lot more rifle for the money.

I'm looking for pictures of brass failures and defects.

kasTX, Yes, it's a .22LR. It was fired in a Marlin rifle. Model 81, I think.

Not quite what you're looking for, but still neat. This didn't produce unusual noise or accuracy as far as I can recall.

    Marlin Papoose?

The 70PSS is a good buy. Accuracy isn't great, but it's what you'd expect out of a take-down .22 with a short barrel. The rear sight is dovetailed into the barrel, and at least on the one I've used, the dovetail was loose enough that the rear sight could be moved by hand and even came close...

    220 grain 30'06: what's the point?

Does anyone here hunt or do anything with a 220 grain 30'06? Is there any animal that'll drop when hit by a 220, but which would get up and run when hit with a 180? Also, since most 30'06 barrels probably come with a twist rate optomized for 150-180 grain bullets, won't a 220 be unstable?

    Barrel life of a .22LR?

How many rounds does it take to wear out a .22LR barrel? I've heard stories of over 100K rounds. Who wants to claim the record?

Bolt Action Rifle of the Future! Or past. Or something.

The Enfield action cocks as the bolt is closed, rather than when it's opened, as is the case with maybe every other action ever made. This difference makes the Enfield easier and faster to operate. The M1 action is very strong and durable. I've read excerpts from (Army/Ordnance Dept/whomever)...
