I'd go for an M1. 'Course I can go through the CMP so that would total around $500 if I go for a service grade, $450 or so for a rack grade.
So that would influence my decision a whole bunch.

You could start with the page you linked, or a google search for long range rifle. 1k, .30 cal rifle. That's the easy part. Doing it well...whole 'nother world.

The two biggest keys to lateral control in the standing position are a stable position and balance. The stability comes from relaxation, and finding and checking your NPOA. If, after you've closed your eyes for 5 or 10 seconds, your sights are still aligned with the target, you NPOA is pretty...
The typical standing position used in ISSF (Olympic) smallbore/ air rifle. Your support arm really oughtta be completely relaxed... since grasping involves muscular tension, you might be better served by plopping your elbow down on the ribcage and having your support hand forming either a shelf...
I'm not shooting matches (for 3 position ISSF rifle) yet since I haven't built up enough endurance in my standing position and my kneeling/prone positions haven't been fleshed out. When I'm not dry firing in my basement, I try to live fire at the NRA range. Once I reach that point in my training...
The Mossberg is a decent trainer, but if you want to get further than casual shooting it will limit you. SB events like 3 / 4 position and prone need a rifle with a degree of adjustability so that you can alter the rifle to YOUR position. Not the other way around. The Mossy might be alright for...
Welcome to the brotherhood.
Had somethign similar happen to me during Qual week at P.I.... huge windage values all week (like 40R at 500y for Tower wind). Friday...friggin' dead calm. Me and the Cpl. spotting (I.E. coaching) for us pups were twisting knobs all over Helen Gone. Didn't drop too...
So the next thing I wanna play is 3 position smallbore rifle. Are there any clubs, leagues or matches in the Fairfax/Northern Virginia area where I can pick up a few pointers when I need them? I've looked around but I've only found clubs for Jr shooters... and I'm Hellen Gone from being 21 yrs...
Another nod to Atlantic Guns. Both locations are pretty laid back groups... not overly chummy but still attentive and knowledgeable. Rockville's store has a big SASS vibe... Silver Spring's used to do alot of airgun traffic.
If I wanted to do a transfer, I went to Maryland Small Arms Range...
Sinclair makes some nice rests. I think the answer you're looking for kind of depends on what you want to do with your rifle. If you plan on doing alot of load testing or entering some factory BR matches, it might not be a bad investment.
OTOH, I've shot some pretty decent groups from...
A thread at Sniper's Hide , and an article by Rob01 about fire lapping.
Seems your barrel is a likely candidate. No mention of throat erosion.
Hope this helps,

That advert is REALLY old: Quantico Shooting Club is more current. Not quite $6 a pop, though... $60/ year, wait list for civilians to get in. Ranges open on weekends (IF there's an RSO to open the range).
On the plus side, you'll get to shoot at some pretty decent rifle ranges, (range 1 is...
Olympic Shooting For Your Viewing Pleasure
ISSF has the Olympic shooting events, along with some other competitions.
There is a little eye candy involved:
Katerina Kurkova (20) from Czech Republic was today again at great condition at the final of the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women...
