Any recommended books for new bullseye/highpower shooter?

My command was attempting to start a shooting team and basically asked a few of the folks known to enjoy shooting if they were interested. I had never shot in any competition and rarely with a rifle. At the FFC Atlantic, we were invited to stay for the ALL Navy. We used "van guns" issued...

Any recommended books for new bullseye/highpower shooter?

I shot in the Navy rifle and pistol championships this year and really enjoyed it. As I am currently deployed, I was thinking it would be nice to order a book or two to read to better my ability. Anyone have recommendations on a couple of good books for either bullseye or highpower shooting?

The TSA in Action in California

That's why I will never fly again unless I am under orders I am in the Navy, stationed in Norfolk, VA. I have a secret clearance and and in the process of TS screening. Yet EVERY time I have flown anywhere since 9/11 (in or out of uniform, even though I do show my active duty ID as my picture...

Marlin: how about a 500sw lever?

Hmmm! I think I would rather have a levergun in 10mm. That would be what I would like. Pretty flat trajectory and plenty powerful.

    sixty minutes promo 7/15

Old story It is the same tired old story from a couple of years ago when the "Ban the .50 cal, it's the terrorists weapon of choice" started. The Brady bunch and some of their ilk said that Ronnie Barrett sold Bin Laden and his cronies(Al Qaeda) a number of rifles. I don't remember how many...

    arsenal rebuild questions

I found what looks like an arsenal rebuild 1911 for sale today. It was a Remington Rand slide on what appears (based on a 6 digit 725XXX serial number) to be a colt frame. It looks to be set up for bullseye shooting with a high front sight and a high sitting adjustable rear. All the safety...

Help with possible start in competition

thanks Navy Joe I am in Norfolk, and that was kind of the info I was looking for. The message on the street now touts the competition as a chance to get more/better training for VBSS/Force Protection types. Most of us will take what we can get. I don't do VBSS anymore, but do FP stuff and...

Help with possible start in competition

I am in the Navy on a Cruiser (small boy). Some one in the chain of command (COC) wants to start a shooting team for the Atlantic Fleet Rifle and Pistol Matches, thinking it will help with training for our VBSS teams and force protection guys. Great idea, since it gets me to shoot more and even...

Do You Look Like A Cop ???

Happens to me all the time I have had it happen at gunshops, nights out at bars, driving into some areas at home, and even talking to LEO's when I visit my mom. I am in the navy and I do stand up with proper posture. Short hair, clean-shaven, respectful and polite to most people. I am...

    holster for S&W 1076

I lucked into a 1076 today at A&P Arms in Hampton. Been looking for one for a while. Anyone know who makes a quality carry holster for them? I usually use Sparks VM II for my 1911's. I will probably ask on monday if they will make one. Any other options?

    AD Military exempt from CCW?

There is a opinion written by the GA AG. I don't have the link on the ship, I'm at work. But there is a link to a website with the opnion posted. I bet if you asked on Packing.org, someone could post that link. The opinion, IIRC stated that Active duty military were covered without a CCW...

    Good pocket gun

I didn't know about the finger grips. Thanks. My roommate saw it today and he wants one. I looked at the p11 first. It fit the hand ok, but was pretty big, comparatively.

    Good pocket gun

Thanks for the input I went to A&P Arms here in VA Beach and got a Kel-Tec P3AT in .380 today. It seems to shoot ok, but it is so small it's kind of hard to get a decent grip. But as someone said, better a .380 on you than a .45 at home.

    Good pocket gun

I normally carry a compact 1911, and for 5 years a full-size, but lately I have been having to wear more in the way of polo shirts and khaki pants. I want to get something that would fit in a pocket or the zippered pocket behind the front pocket in some columbia or docker pants. I think a...

A Media Kit for Safe Gun Storage: Stop Gun Injuries and Death

HMMM! With all the anti links followed by the caveat "MIPH nor the Stop Gun Injuries and Death Project endorse these products or companies", it kind of makes you wonder if they are supported by state funds and trying BADLY to appear fair. If they are it wouyld seem poosible to at least try to...

Where do you see yourself in the armed forces?

To late for me I'm working on my 11'th year as a Sonar Technician (E-6 now). We don't always do the job, in the gulf we get to do boardings. So I guess I'd be doing this.
