Would you buy your SAA again or a different make, caliber, model?

I have a Colt, 2000's production with a Bob James trigger job. It belonged to a multi-state SASS champion who sold it when he switched to .38's. The feel of the action and the trigger is one of the most satisfying things you can engage in while fully clothed. I also have a Beretta Stampede...

BOOK title please on Wyatt Earp-Tombstone

You should also lok at "Murder in Tombstone: the Trial of Wyatt Earp" by Stephen Lubet. The author did a very thorough review of all the Court transcripts of the trial (actually a preliminary hearing) of the Earps for murder following the gunfight. It's interesting because the transcripts...

Favorite and least favortie gun shops

Some from Western Virginia... I just moved to Roanoke and am thrilled to have at least four good gunshops in town. Roanoke Firearms; great selection, good prices, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Bryansteen's Guns; good selection, good prices, friendly staff. Trader Jerry's; good...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Now they're going after the gun shop.

I used to be a regular at Roanoke Firearms before we moved away two years ago. They were (presumably still are) one of the friendliest, most professional stores in Roanoke. I think they may also be one of the busiest, which means that five crime guns purchased there in the almost ten years...

Anyone familiar with Bob James' gunsmithing work?

I have a Colt SAA with one of his trigger jobs. It is verrrrry smooth, and the trigger break is crisp, light, and clean. No reliability problems either. From what I hear, he has a very good reputation among SASS shooters for good work.

Guns in (VA public) university housing?

Interesting test case... Virginia law prohibits landlords from enforcing a prohibition of personal firearms in individual dwellings unless they are required to do so by federal law. See Va. Code 55-248.9(6). As mentioned above, only the General Assembly can pass laws or regs governing...

    Ballistic or primer mark?

Glock? It looks like the striker mark left from the rectangular striker on a Glock. Glocks don't have round firing pins like most other pistols, they have a narrow rectangular striker that leaves a distinctive rectangular dent in the primer.

What gun for a grizzly bear in a restaurant?

Whatever he wants.. I think a grizzly in a restaurant should be able to carry whatever gun he wants to.... Don't we all support the right to arm bears? :) (Come on, someone had to say it)

Two Enfields before bed, will call in the morning.

The first is a little wordy; maybe "Some vandals destroy churches and works of art, others melt down historic arms. Preserve history; collect firearms." The 2nd may work a little better in the UK and former Commonwealth nations. I think .303 may be the one caliber (like .45 or .30-30 here)...

    Range recommendations in Blacksburg, VA

I live in Radford. Welcome to the NRV (or welcome to shooting if you lived here already). The closest range to Blacksburg is the NF range off of Rt 460. Take 460 out of B'Burg toward Bluefied. take the first right after the first National Forest sign. Then take the first left onto the road...

    C&R pistols

They're out there, but you gotta look.. If you stick with the big importers, you're pretty much limited to CZ-52's, Manhurin PP's, and Nagant revolvers right now. Fortunately, there are usually dozens of C&R eligible pistols available on auction sites and trader boards at any given time...

Required safety course for gun owners?

Bad idea; for the same reasons that literacy tests for voting were a bad idea. In a perfect world where no one in authority would be likely to abuse the safety certification process, it probably would not be bad. Unfortunately, it's pretty easy to foresee anti-freedom states and localities...

anyone have a link to a school shooting stopped by a ccw holder

Pearl, Mississippi There was a shooting at the high school in Pearl, MS (Jackson suburb) in 1995 or 1996. A principal ran to his car(parked off school property per law), retrieved a pistol, and held the shooter for authorities. I don't know if he had a CCW or not. A google of Pearl...

    Semi-automatic for lefthanded shooters?

Doesn't happen (mostly)... I'm a lefty and I've never had problems with semi-autos. Most rifles either eject straight right and up or slightly forward and to the right. The only trouble I've had with rifle ejection happened with a Winchester M94 (lever action) that ejected the cases into...

Think twice when you fill out a 4473...

Always a safe bet. After my Constitutional Law class in law school, I kept wondering how Ivy League law schools could turn out judges who lacked the reading comprehension skills to understand the plain language of the Constitution. :banghead:

Why is the solution to every one of society's problems, loss of freedom?

Not left or right.. Sadly, the urge to limit freedom in order to PREVENT crime (rather than punishing it) knows no party lines. The War on Liberty/Drugs/Guns/Porno/Alcohol/Tobacco/Hi-Cap Commodes has been a bipartisan effort. Politicians get a lot of reward for a little effort when they...

    Why is 8 mm obsolete?

If by obsolete, you mean, "Not commonly chambered in newly manufactured rifles", then I might have an idea why the 7.92x57 isn't popular in the US. Most US manufactured 8mm ammo is loaded in a manner that makes it safe to fire in the 8mm M1888 Commission-Gewehr rifles that are still floating...

At what point will we move on from the run-up to Iraq?

Don't hold your breath The dummy-crats are still whining about losing Florida's electoral votes in 2000. I expect we'll hear "Bush lied about WMD's, give Saddam a do-over" until at least 2010.

    How to fix WA DC.

I say we pull back and nuke the place from orbit.... It's the only way to be sure. (I've always wanted to use that quote)
