You know, generally I don't pay attention to anti-gun articles. In fact for the most part I consider myself rather liberal to an extent. But when I read this piece this morning on the front page of CNN I couldn't believe what I was reading. By far the dumbest, knee jerk piece of retarded...
I picked one up new a few months ago and im sad to say i paid much more than you did, hopefully yours was used. I have run about 300 rounds of reloads though it without a problem at all, but have yet to run factory ammo though it because I havent seen any in stores for the past 8 months.
Here are a number of pictures let me know if any others would be helpful.
Just trying to get an idea of if its all original
Also posted at m1911 .com but it moving pretty slow there.
Thanks guys, im leaning towards making it a shooter, ill post pictures of all the part at the m1911 forum to determine originality. Thanks for your help.
Oh I understand the concern there. Its not a gift/emotional issue, he gave me the gun to shoot without knowing the history, if I don't shoot it since I live in town I presume the probability of it being stolen/lost in an apartment fire, ect is much greater. My parents live far in the country...
I will post pictures when I get off work.
This weekend I was handed down a old colt 1911 serial # C 72xxx , based on what I could find out that puts its manufacturing date from 1913-1918 (different websites seem to say different things).

Thanks to everyone for the advice, I gave my dad a call and I decided to try and trade Star and Lubesizer for a complete reloading setup. I think thats probably my best bet with my inexperience and I already have some amazing target pistols from said uncle, so his hobby will be preserved.
My dad said, he used the Tru-line close 20 years ago he said to reload some .38s but never used it again when he got into law enforcement and the state started paying for his ammo. The Star was passed from my uncle close to 20 years ago to my grandfather, and from him to my dad and then to me...
Thanks for the help, ill take a look at the Lee, and stop by Cabelas and see what they have. Obviously if I am keeping this equipment I would want to save as much money as possible. After all the idea behind reloading for me is to make shooting more affordable.
Yea I have been reading up on starreloaders.com for a while, but the community is not very active anymore and its difficult when you're not 100% sure what everything does.
I recently inherited a number of reloading supplies from my late uncle and some stuff my dad was no longer using. I am new to reloading, and have hesitated flat out asking for help, but after a month of cleaning researching, and figuring out how all this equipment works I am still lost as to...
Ive tried comparing the serial # to others who have asked to avoid asking again but the format dosent match. I inherited the gun from an uncle and really enjoy shooting it but I would also like to know exactly what im shooting
