    Problems with Bugler paper cartridges

Thanks for the input! Answering some of your questions, in no particular order: I twisted ends, then clipped with scissors initially. My buddy had a nail clipper in his car, so we tried shortening the twists with that after problems became evident. (Some of the Youtube videos used clippers.)...

    Problems with Bugler paper cartridges

I'll see what I can find locally. I had read previously that Bugler worked best, but it won't hurt to try other brands if I can find them. Thanks.

    Problems with Bugler paper cartridges

I tried my homemade .44 paper cartridges yesterday for the first time, and beginning with the second cylinder, had some ignition problems. I was shooting a Pietta Remington New Army repro. The cartridges were made with Bugler papers and Goex FFFg. One chamber did not fire even after the third...

    1858 Pietta Remington Conversion Completed

Stretch the holster? How much too small were the holsters you tried? I had to stretch a Cabelas Hickok to make it fit a Pietta Remington. I think they are sized for Colts. Just wetting the areas that need stretching with a water-saked Q-tip,then inserting the pistol after covering it with...

mykeal There's nothing wrong with precision, whether in spelling, grammar, or anything else. You weren't making fun of the incorrect spelling, just keeping the readers properly informed.

    1858 Pietta Conversion

Because the description specifies only two parts as being brass, and not the frame, I believe they messed up and used copy from a "Colt" ad. The picture shows a typical blue steel Remington revolver. I guess I need to contact them and get an answer.

    1858 Pietta Conversion

Link in post #18 Use the link in post #18. It works. By the way, the link describes the pistol as having a brass backstrap and trigger guard. How can a Remington New Army have a brass backstrap? Probably copy left over from a Colt description?

    Range report-Colt Navy

I ordered two bags. One held 101 and one held 99. So far, so good. However, the bag with 101 had numerous scraps, maybe sprues, included, so I figured that if they were packed by weight, not counted, then the 101 must have had serious voids. (I could see that many did have voids.) I just...

    Range report-Colt Navy

House brand balls? Did you use the Dixie brand balls that come in a cloth bag? I ordered some, but they were so inconsistently cast that I sent them back.

    Recomend a revolver?

Go with the Cabela recommendation as a starting point. Accuracy will vary as you experiment with different loads. As you start to get too heavy or too light, groups will open up.

Cabela's Piettas I have been very happy with the Remington repro I bought from Cabela's a couple of years ago. It was made by Pietta.

Pietta/Navy Arms Stainless Remington - Opinions?

Thanks, mykeal The codes start off logically enough, but the pattern soon escapes me.

    Recomend a revolver?

I started with a Pietta Remington New Army. It is simpler to take apart, not having the wedge. The solid steel frame (with topstrap) is a plus, as well as the fact that the rear sight does not move when the hammer falls. I once borrowed a Traditions 1851 "Colt" from a friend, and had a heck...

Pietta/Navy Arms Stainless Remington - Opinions?

proof marks Scrat, is there a link to an up-to-date page that sets out the date codes? I believe they are in MEC's book, but as I recall that is a few years old now and wouldn't have a current list. Thanks.

    1860: Cut/Not Cut, Steel/Brass Backstrap?

vtigunparts.com www.vtigunparts.com also seems to offer both a brass and steel backstrap. They show two, with different part numbers, and the second one specifies brass. I'm guessing that the other is steel. I don't know how finished it might be, but it lists for $50. You'd hope the cost...

Brass Frames, do they hold up?

Somewhere on this site, I believe, someone posted photos of the impression left in the recoil shield area of a brass frame by the rear of the cylinder, probably caused by heavy loads. I can't find it right now. Maybe someone else knows where it is. It was within the last couple of months.

    memory fails me

You're welcome. Their ball prices are pretty good, too, if the quality is there. I had a disappointing experience recently with a well-known, well-established company who markets their own brand of balls. Very inconsistent casting. If you try any of their (BPStuff) products, please let...
