Why Aren't More People In South Carolina Open Carrying?

Being a Hoosier who can carry open or not. I prefer to not walk around brandishing a sidearm. I'll keep mine concealed until needed. Just my 2 cents worth but showing what you are carrying, while your right, doesn't make it tactically a good choice.

Home defense - shotgun and which handgun?

Lots of choices, a good .38/.357 revolver with a 3-4 inch barrel. A simple to use 9mm like the glock, or S&W M&P as well as the XD/XDM , or Kahr in 9mm.

Poor College kid needs a Rifle

Any of the .22 LR rifles would fit the bill for what your asking for. As mentioned the Mosin Nagants for more boom.

    Home defense strategy change.

I had a similar problem a few years back and one thing I did was put more 'obstacles' in the way to increase time to wake/move/etc. while i was recovering. Great plan you shared. Thank you!

What's a good shotgun load for bears?

Slugs. Breneke would be first choice, but any slug over buck would be better in my opinion.

close range coyotes with a .22mag revovler?

Head or one thru the lungs would do the job. If those southern hunters can kill a hog with a .22 mag, coyote is lot thinner skinned that that. I would use a heavy grain JHP or solid and put one thru the lungs myself.

Do 22 conversion make sense anymore?

The only interest I had would be on a hiking trip, carrying my 1911 in .45 and then the .22 conversion would make it easier to carry more ammo and to hunt for small game. Of course with the weight a bearcat might weigh as much? I don't have the conversions on any of my guns for what its worth.

    Type of games

If your set on the .308 I would opt for a well built 180 grain, esp. for the larger critters you listed amd proper shot placement as always.

    Scope problems

Rings are medium redfield rings for a one inch scope. the base is a standard weaver. Switched the rings out to weavers and will see if that does anything.

    Scope problems

I have been sighting in scopes for years and have run into a problem I cannot figure out. I purchased a marlin 45/70 and put a Redfield 2x7x33mm scope on it. I have had to crank the scope as far up as it will go and it will still shoot 2 inches low. I would like to be able to put the sights...

Caliber, bullet, "One shot stop", placement.... Stopping power

Looking at the mechanism of injury at handgun velocities its a matter of puting metal into meat. Compared to the mechanisms at rifle velocity, the handgun is pretty paltry. So when a bullet at low velocity hits tissue, it tears flesh, the bigger the bullet (either by caliber or expansion) the...

    Best home defense rifle?

Depends on the home. In a small condo/city dwelling type home, with nearby neighbors, I would opt for a AR. In the 'bush' in blackbear country a .44 mag or 30/30 lever gun would be a good choice. In Alaska or 'griz land' a BAR in .300 win or .338 win mag might be best. For me, my shotty is my...
