    Soldier's .223 complaints

I've read this thread with a lot of interest. I've been on 3 combat tours (currently on the 3rd) and I'm an 11B Platoon Sergeant. I think I know a thing or two about firearms and ballistics. Those that remember me from TFL and 1911forum can attest to that. I do hear Soldiers complain daily...

Any Tankers (as in M1A battle tank) in the audience? Or other military?

I'm an 11B Platoon Sergeant with jump wings and air assault wings. I've seen some tankers with jump wings. Some changed MOS and got their jump wings prior to being a tanker. Some got lucky and had it in their contract. Most officers will get airborne school while at ROTC, OCS or West Point...

    Best advice?

Dry fire a lot, start reloading (you'll shoot more) and go shooting with someone that's a good shooter

Good area in TX for a hog hunt

I have use 30 days leave sometime this year. If I don't travel the Orient, I plan on stopping in Texas to visit some relatives in Wichita Falls and Corpus Christi. Would somebody recommend a good hog hunt'n area in Texas? I prefer to hunt with a revolver. Thanks

Suggestions on a good fighting knife

I've seen Matt Lamey's work and it's excellent. He's also a very nice fellow.

Suggestions on a good fighting knife

A nice, long blade sounds nice and all but it's really impractical due to the fact it would hinder my movements while attached to my load bearing vest. In other words, it'd be packed away in my ruck and not easily accessible. As is, my Busse's kydex sheath has a thigh strap to keep it from...

Suggestions on a good fighting knife

ACP I had the model 16 at one time but while gutting a deer, the tip hit a bone and broke. After that, I was not too impressed. It might have been just bad luck on my part but I'm still wary of Randalls.

Did your taste in firearms change as you aged?

I've learned to appreciate the red dot site too. Lately, I've been using Trijicons on my M4 Carbine. Couple months ago, we were using Aimpoints.

Suggestions on a good fighting knife

I'm in the military (Army) and as an infantryman, I utilize my knife quite a bit in the field. For some time now, I've been carrying a Busse Steel Heart on my LBV (load bearing vest). The Busse is a great general purpose, hacking knife. However, it's not really an ideal fighting knife. I'm...

Did your taste in firearms change as you aged?

When I was 20-22 years of age, I was in love with Glocks, Berettas and many of the modern semi-auto pistols. AR-15's, AK-47's and various tactical rifles were my cup of tea. However, once firearms became a major passion of mine, my interest slowly leaned towards the older pistols, rifles and...

    Belt Recommendations Anyone?

Milt Sparks or Rusty Sherrick. I personally prefer 1.5" belts made from horsehide. They have always done a great job of holding my full-size 1911s in place. Both are more than $60 (Sparks $75 and Sherrick $85) but worth every penny and will last you a very long time...

What is the best-looking handgun you have ever seen?

I supplied the Les Baer. Then my good friend Pete Single, supplied all the custom parts (i.e. Ed Brown Beavertail, mag release, Wilson hammer, etc etc). Obviously, he did all the custom work too. The finished product was polished and then hard chromed by Alamo. Then it was coated with Boron...

What are our troops using for ammo?

Typical, junk mil-spec ammo. Snipers occasionally get match grade ammo. However, they use junk also for training.

Are IWB holsters for 1911 realistic?

Carrying a full-size 1911 daily isn't overly difficult with the proper holster AND belt. The key is weight distribution. With the proper gear, the heavy weight (anybody that says otherwise is fooling ya) of a full-size 1911 will not be a burden. I'm lean (112-120 lbs) and the only time I had...
