Ever traded a non-firearm for a firearm or vice versa?

About 25 yrs ago traded a Browning .22 auto that was not very accurate for a 17th century Japanese Samurai katana. Didn't know it was that old till I had it checked out by someone who specialized in that. Sweet:-)

    Firearm Related Deaths by State

Take 9 guys living in cardboard boxes under the overpass. Add 1 guy pulling down a $million/year. The average income for the 10 is $100,000/year. That is a statistical fact but is nowhere close to the true situation. Any statistical fact from the antis I put in about the same category.

Whats the best lie you had a gun seller tell you

Several years ago I had a fellow try to sell me a 7x57 rolling block (1902?) that had a plum/purple colored receiver that you get when trying to blue case-hardening. He claimed it was an old buffalo gun in like-new condition and didn't appreciate one bit my pointing out the obvious. This was a...

    Made my own snap caps!

I have used neoprene o-ring material of the approximate dia. as the primer pocket. Glue 'em in flush. They seem to last a long time and, so far, I haven't had a problem with them.

    Texas?

I noticed most of the suggestions were for south of Denton. Nothing wrong with that. Puts you between Denton and Big-D and may be convenient. You might, however, consider Sanger, just north of Denton. Smaller town, good school. I don't live there, never lived there, but I know some folks...

    chas daly stock

Thanks Guys. I will give the Browning angle a follow-up I'm about ready to rough-cut one out of a 2X4 and tie it on with baling wire ;)

    Dementia+ingraving tool=mess

An older gent that I know once showed me his 99 Savage that was worth quite a bit of $$. I didn't have the heart to tell him that maybe it was.....before he auto-engraved his name all along the left side of the receiver.

    Japanese rifle stock

Will a type-99 stock interchange with a type-38? I have a friend with a t-38 with a bubba'd stock. Metal is in super condition, intact mum, matching, etc. Hasn't been able to find a t-38 stock. I know that somebody in this august group knows. ;)

    Remington 788 trigger stud fix?

A wee bit off-thread, my apologies. I have had a 788 in 7mm-08 for many years. Maybe I got lucky with a used rifle, but the stock trigger is crisp, no creep or overtravel. I have installed Timneys on Mausers but never even considered replacing the 788 trigger. Is mine not typical?

    chas daly stock

Thanks Guru. I will give them a try. I didn't know they were so hard to find. The original stock was removed for unknown reasons and was lost in a house fire. Thanks again.

    chas daly stock

Does anyone know where I might find a buttstock for a Daly/Miroku 12 ga O/U? A buttstock ass'y would be nice, but what I can't locate is the wood. I've tried the places on the net that I am familiar with and got nada. Failing that, any ideas of who might have the wherewithall to duplicate...

    Ammunition amnesty?

Several years ago I lived near what had been a training (and POW) camp during WW2. One time I came upon a cow calving next to an unexploded 105mm projo. Approaching seemed to disturb the cow and I went on my way. A friend had 2 identical projos, one on each side of his fireplace. Looked...

Long term storage of Hoppe's #9....

W.E.G. "reeks"? "Stink"? I like the smell. In fact, when doing contract work in Antarctica I'd take film cannisters with cotton soaked in various scents my wife used in candle making; cinnamon, orange, etc., for room aroma. Also a cannister with Hoppe's soaked cotton. I had several guys...

Who here has a m1 garand from the CMP?

I have 3. A rack grade SA Dane, field grade HRA and service grade HRA. All mixmasters (the SA, 1944, has a Win. op-rod ;) . The difference between the field grade and service grade was minimal. Maybe the stock on the latter was not quite as dinged. All in all, I am well pleased with the...

    Scope Breakage

Yep, last November. A few years ago I bought a used Redfield 3x9. Mounted it on a 700BDL '06 and hunted with it. Early Nov. of last year found me in Montana for my first ever elk hunt. I popped a bull with the Redfield sighted BDL. After returning home, I went whitetail hunting. Was in the...

Why bother talking with the press?

I encountered this several years ago in Antarctica. My foreman, as a joke for more than anything else, turned my name in as "person of the week" (whoop-tee-friggin'-do). Out comes the Navy reporter (I'm civilian) to do the interview. He had note pad, tape recorder, the whole works. I...

    I may have a problem....

Exactly right, Grump. With 3 pieces you can still claim "need". That is really hard to do once you pass 50 in the safe. It's good that my wife can't tell the difference between a Hakim and a Garand at a glance. A full, or nearly full safe makes it easier to cammoflage the new babies, also...
