do you reload while sitting or standing? Why?

SSN, I guess it's like this: any bench is better than no bench. For standing and leverage: I only really need leverage when sizing bmg. Other than that, bending over each stroke is a PITA.. or should I say back.

do you reload while sitting or standing? Why?

It depends on what I'm doing. With my progressive high volume, it's standing. For match low volume, it's sitting. I don't think this is a really fair question since most seasoned reloaders have more than one press. But if I had only one option, it'd be standing in a soft surface for my...

How tall do you make a loading bench

I like to stand when using my presses, get more leverage that way. I guess a good starting point on height would be the height where the lever is at its full downward postion (-1 inch) without bending over. For most presses, that's about the height of your belly-button.

    How clean is clean enough?

The only reason to tumble your brass it so keep them from scratching your dies. My brass rarely 'sparkles'. I use a rock-tumbler and tumble for four hours minumum after firing in walnut or corn cob depending on what I have around. After sizing, I give them another hour to get the lube off...

    Talk me out of it!

Damn, missed the post about selling your reloaded ammo. Bad idea. Maybe your not mature enough for a progressive. Disipline is the key word here.

Seating Depth variation on Dillon 550

+1 on what Mike said. Blue will help you figure this out.

Prep once fired LC brass like any other civilian brass

I just bought 2600 223 LC once-fired military brass. One of my steps in prepping this brass is reaming the primer pockets. If there is a crimp there, the reamer will take it out. The crimp on 223 is so slight I don't even notice it. Now on 50 bmg, it's a different story. Even in it's worse...

    Talk me out of it!

15 years ago... that's a long time. Nothing to be afrade of with progressives if you know the basics. Get a blue 550b to get started.

Once fired brass at local Police Department?

The swat teams at my range do a very good job placing the bullets in their original cases (federal match) and throwing them out. Once thrown, they don't care. But ask first.

    .308 best powder?

With the varing temps in my area, Varget seems to be the best. Five rounds expanding the same hole at 100 yards can't be wrong.

    Neck Sizing Instead of Full-Length

After you fireform the brass, you should bump the shoulder 0.001" with a body die then neck size for optimum accuracy. If you don't, the brass will lengthen until it won't chamber. To bump that shoulder you can get some precision shellholders ($40.00) or some die shims ($10.00) or adjust the...

Seating Depth variation on Dillon 550

How are you determing the variance? I hope your measuring on the ogive of the bullet rather than the tip. And, are you loading swc vs rn vs hp? A good seating die will purchase on the ogive of the bullet and your measurements should be the same. Nothing is perfect. Even the most expensive...

    Neck Sizing?

+1 on what jwr said. But wouldn't hurt to give a wipe of imperial if your concerned.

    Cleaning cases without a tumbler

For small quantities, I use Goo Gone and a paper towel. It's petrolium based and does a good-enough job to keep from scratching your dies. It dries with no residue that will mess up your sizing lube. Instead of Brasso (contains ammonia) try Fritz if you want to pollish. But nothing beats a...

To open the door - Or NOT to open the door - that is the question

Something disturbing has been happeing in Phoenix, AZ lately regarding this thread. Illegal aliens have been dressing up in official police uniforms. These are asassin squads that wear body armor and wield ar-15s. It is rumered some of these guys were ex-mexican military. But now the...

    COW or maybe Walnut?

I assume your talking about a filler for fire-forming brass. I wouldn't use walnut for that... too abrasive... not to mention how it will react the the round goes off because of its density.

    Reloading Kit

The Lee is a good starter kit. Even as you advance, you'll find a use for that press. I would 'upgrage' to this next kit because it has the Lee Auto Prime and all 'shellholders' for it. I still use that primer for my match loads. Costs a bit more, but IMO, the primer is worth it. Challenger...

    Scale Accuracy

That's a real good question. My portable electronic will timeout when powered by batteries. Both are affected by wind. I've been using a mechanical with a u-shaped cardboard wind break. If the wind picks up, even this doesn't work. I'd be interested to see how others do it outside for...

How many presses do I need?

You can reload everything you need with an ammomaster and 550. But let's talk reality here. It's okay to have multiple presses with limited space. The key here is how much hassle it is to swap them out. The best system I've seen (from thr) is to mount the base of the press on a solid 3/4"...

What do you guys think about this chronograph?

Looks good. IMO, any chrony is better than no chrony. Just make sure it's 12 feet away from your muzzle or you'll blow the top shades off with a 308.... don't ask me how I know this. I'd buy it if I didn't already have one.
