    Hunting with cowboy guns

You bet! A Rossi .45 Colt carbine, and one of two old-style Vaqueros. For hogs in heavy brush, it doesn't get much better than that!

    CCW today!

When I went to get my CCW permit renewed, The Boss asked me what was involved, since she'd had a permit when we lived in Iowa, but not since moving back to Alabama. Less than 20 minutes, and $11.00 later, out the door with her brand-new permit. Gotta love a redneck sheriff!

Which is better COLT or KIMBER

Kimber. I've owned several Colts, doubt that I'll ever own another one. (Unless someone wants to give me a Series 70 Combat Commander in .45)

    Reloading for my Vaquero...45 Colt

Best ? Beats me! I can tell you that I use a Lee 300 gr. WFNGC bullet (without the gas check) over 23 grains of H-110 and a CCI Magnum Large Pistol Primer, in Starline brass. This is a STOUT load, that will penetrate lengthwise through a 275 lbs. feral hog. I'm getting just over 1100 fps...

    Used Ruger Bisley Vaquero

IMHO, the Bisley version is the best idea Ruger ever had! I've got a Bisley Vaquero in .45 Colt, and it's gotten to be my favorite "knockin' around in the woods" handgun.

Gun-owning family needs help keeping their kids

I've never met Chris or Mel, but people whose opinions I respect a great deal think well of them, and on the theory that "the friend of my friend is my friend, as well" they've got what little help I can shake loose. And while Chris may have done something "stupid", he certainly doesn't have...

    What do you carry

If I'm dressed for civilized company, a Kimber Custom in .45 ACP in a Sparks IWB holster. Knockin' around in the woods, or on the Back Forty, a Ruger Bisley Vaquero in .45 Colt in a crossdraw holster. At work, an 8-inch crescent wrench, and a pair of channel-lock pliers.

Poll: Do you keep more than 1 loaded gun in the bedroom?

The carry 1911 is on the nightstand, plus The Boss' GP-100 on HER nightstand, plus the Mossberg 500 in the closet, plus two or more SA revolvers, usually the Vaqueros, or the .41 Mag Blackhawk. ( I live out in the sticks, and we have BIG mice!)

The ups and downs of Ruger 77s????

I've got one Ruger M-77, a .30-06 because Ruger is one of the few makers that doesn't charge extra for a left-hand version. Mine will go less than 4" at 300 yards, and honestly, I don't have any business shooting further than that. I did replace the stock, but only because I didn't want to...

Blackhawk vs. Redhawk - what's the difference?

The major advantage is the SA grip style, which allows it to roll in the hand, absorbing some of the perceived recoil. The DA grip tends to keep the recoil more straight back.

    Is it worth saving brass?

My first handgun was an OM Blackhawk in .41 Magnum. Even in 1970, .41 Mag was expensive and hard to find, but the elderly gentleman who sold me the gun also included a double-cavity Lyman mold, bullet sizer, and set of reloading dies for it. This meant that I got to do lots of low-budget...

    Kimber VS. Springfield

Son and I both have Custom IIs, and the total round count (for both) is about 15K. No issues, no problems, no quirks.

    Omaha Shooting and Mental Illness

Quote: "Anyone with a handgun dumb enough to confront a suicidal killer armed with a semi-auto rifle would learn the same fatal lesson that the FBI learned on a certain April morning in 1986." No, not really. It's been done before, with some success.

    "new" Old Vaquero

If you bought a "Bird's head" in .45 Colt, I may just burst into tears! I've been looking for one for about a year, and can't find one anywhere. Don't tell me how it shoots, either! Congrats, Vaqueros are addictive! JWB

First Handgun, What was yours? Mine was...

Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Mag, bought used in 1970, along with reloading dies, bullet mold, and cast-iron pot. Ran tons of wheelweights through it, made enough money winning bets that I bought a new Reminton 788 (lefty) with the proceeds. Traded it to a collector for a New Model Bisley...

    220 grain 30'06: what's the point?

I've found the accuracy is pretty good with the 220s, at least in my rifles, but I've never found a 220 that I liked in terms of bullet design, and at max load, the recoil in a 7# rifle is just enough too much to be annoying. I'm perfectly happy with the 165 gr Hornady BTSP in handloads...
