Most improtantly, IMHO is, the 'trusty ole '06' has ammo that is readily available. I was once out of state with some guys on a hog hunting trip. One of the fellas had a 35 Remington and needed to buy an additional box of ammo. Try as we might, a box of 35 Remington couldn't be found in the...
In a couple of weeks I'll be flying for the first time with a firearm. I'm heading out of state with my shotgun. I'll be flying on Air Tran. I talked to Air Tran and it sounds as if I only need the following to legally take my shotgun;
1-gun must be unloaded
2-gun must be in a hard lockable...
Similarly, cars and toy cars can't be lumped together. I let my 6 yr old drive his RC 4X4....UNSUPERVISED!!!!! I've taken my older unlicensed kids to a go-cart track and actually raced.
If one thinks about it, the list goes on and on...real vs toys. Guns are the same way. To treat them...
"Become a people watcher in public. You'll see behavior you've never noticed before, BG's will see you watching. They prefer clueless victims."
I like all of your advise 1911GUY, especially this one. One thing to be aware of though is this. When you train yourself to be a 'people watcher'...
"Where have you been hiding?!"
I've been "hiding" in southern Illinois, raising my kids, and working 60 hrs a week, thus the reason I don't get on much.
I'll make a call during a break at work on Tuesday!
This is unconfirmed----
I just got this off another site form what appears to be a reputable Cook County (Chicago, IL) resident---
Please confirm if you can-
Read on-
New members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners
have proposed ordinances banning the sales of firearms...
I've been using a scoped, Remington 511 with Remington Subsonic ammo for years for bushy tails.
Back in '90 I spent several days over the summer trying different ammo. I bought a box of just about everything I could find. CB's, BB's and Winchester Wildcats were by far the worst for groups...
tough question!
If my main concern is survival---Savage 24 combo gun, 12ga/.223 or .22 hornet.
Home protection---mossberg 12ga pump
If I ONLY could have one, I guess it would be a 12ga pump. One can use it for home protection, small game with shot and big game with slugs. I've used my...
Several years ago, I purchased primers by the case at the per box price, (about a dollar/100). I asked the clerk about the price and he even verified it with a supervisor. The guy even gave me a rain check since he was out of large rifle. When I returned to pick up the large rifle primers...
interestingly enough, years ago, I had the lic plate: 14 RKBA on my Illinois pickup truck. I had the plate for several years when a republican was in office. When the republicans lost out to the dems, mysteriously, my plate was revoked for 'no proof of insurance'. Kind of a guilty until...
The 'best for home defense', IMO is a relative term.
I recall, years ago, I was going to be out of town and my then wife wanted to have a gun handy for home defense. After trying out several of my solutions; semiauto handgun, rifle, pump shotgun, the conclusion she came to was my old double...
My better half!
OK, I'm game. Here's my better half. I lost my sks to Jana last spring! But that's OK. She gave me a Marlin 1895 XLR (45/70) for Christmas!
She out fishes me at times too!
The Rock Island Arsenal Museum in Rock Island Illinois has a lo0t of WWII stuff. It is an even better museum for the gun enthusiast though. The museum also boasts, a confederate cemetary, many, many WWII-Desert Storm heavy equipment (tanks, rockets, personell carriers etc) in an outdoor hands...
The first step is to ban commercial grade nail drivers and license and background checks for the rest of the nail drivers out there. After that will come a total ban on automatic nail drivers. Those who don't care about the law will resort to black market purchases of electric or pnuematic...
The post "Brought a 12GA to the fight.", brought back memories of my night club parking lot incident back in 1986.
I was in college and a group of my friends wanted to make the 30 mile trek to the next town to visit a night/dance club. I volunteered to be the designated driver.
I had a '79...
As a matter of fact, I teach Behind the Wheel Driver Education. One of the things I teach is "Exit strategies". One, while approaching a stop is VERY similar to the ones mentioned by Kellyj00 and Mtnvalley. Defensive Driving doesn't just happen while the car is moving.
The thread, "Activists' home invaded by police. How would you act?" reminded me of the time, years ago, when my dog called the police on me.
It was 1991. My then wife and I and our two very young daughters, lived in a rented farm house 5 miles from a town of 400. My (then) wife had brought a...
