Mossberg 590A1 US Service Model, 12 Gauge USSM serial number

Well put. Exactly why i switched over to 590A1s from Rem 870 polices, especially for a leftie, the Mossy controls are so much better. WJR

    What's your favorite shotgun?

Very nice. Your Browning certainly looks like it can reach out and touch some clays. I have had the privilege of shooting a few Browning rental O/Us at a local clay shooting place and I really like how they handle and shoot. WJR

    Thoughts on the 681?

Oro, I did not realize that any 681s were made with a lock. Interesting. My point is that the 681 would be a great current production revolver which Ruger is making a nice version of in the GP100 with fixed sights. However, I would not buy one with the silly lock. Thanks, WJR

    Thoughts on the 681?

If I really wanted a 681, I would in turn look no further than a Ruger GP100 3" barrel with fixed sights. Ruger makes the pistol that all 681 fans wish S&W would make, without silly locks. WJR

    What's your favorite shotgun?

590A1 is my favorite. Need to practice more with it. I also enjoy a good O/U (like a Browning) for clay shooting, but do not currently own one of those. WJR

    mossberg 590A1

CaptainChaos, Had an opportunity to run by a gun shop during the day and did take a closer look at a vintage 37. Have to say the older ones look better than the ones on the Ithaca website. Controls are still not my favorite, but I admit I may be a little hasty in my "brick" comment. WJR

    mossberg 590A1

CaptainChaos, No I have not shot an Ithaca before. My comment was only based on appearance. Looks like a brick with a barrel attached to it. It may be a great shotgun, but the controls would not suit me as well as my Mossbergs. WJR

    mossberg 590A1

I am very pleased with my 590A1. What makes this shotgun best for me is the location of the safety. Perfect since I am a lefty. Otherwise, it is very sturdy, reliable, and well built. Also, not sure the comment about the 590A1 being a crowbar of a shotgun. If it is, then the Ithaca must be a...

    The 686

Dark Knight, the -6 models have the MIM trigger and hammer. That is why they have the appearance that they do. S&W changed to the MIM with the -5 version and then the addition of the lock was the engineering change to the -6 version. Hope that helps. If it makes you feel any better, you...

    The 686

Do you mean the MIM triggers and hammers or the color case hardened forged triggers and hammers? WJR

    Moss. 590A1 8th shell???

My 590A1, with 20" barrel, takes 8 rounds without any problem. I finally was able to fire it for the first time this weekend and really enjoyed it. No issues in about 100 rounds using an assortment of 2 3/4 shells. I currently have the stock spring and follower, but am going to switch to a...
