    Light and fast .44 loads?

Interesting. Seems like a bullet construction issue. How fast were you pushing those 180grs?

    Light and fast .44 loads?

That is quite a bit of an over exaggeration of what is happening. I understand the dynamics and the point you are trying to make, but the difference between a .30” cylinder and a .40” cylinder aren’t quite as dramatic as the difference between a horizontal hand and a vertical hand. The question...

    Light and fast .44 loads?

Just a quick question outside of the quotes below. Do reloaders calculate ballistics for their loads, like velocity and drop and different distances? Interesting. So my thought process isn’t too far off in the real world. None yet, but I’m planning to pick up one of those skinner specials at...

    Light and fast .44 loads?

so I randomly stumbled on these loads from RBCD using 110 gr. Bullets with 2,000fps in 44 special and 2,400fps in 44mag. Granted, these are high frangible bullets that I’m not interested in, but it got me thinking. Those numbers are 30-30 territory. Has anyone played with pushing 150ish gr...

4” or 5.5” and what carry strategy?

If you go to cheaper than dirt and type in .44 magnum, the first 4 options that come up are 240gr. At 1,300fps, 1,300fps, 1,100fps, and 1,100fps respectively. Kieth and skeeter were running 250gr at 1,200fps out of the .44 special. That is right there with standard .44 magnum. Of course you can...

4” or 5.5” and what carry strategy?

You sir, are a cruel, cruel, human being. That is one of the sexiest non-single action revolvers I’ve ever seen. But, it’s an exclusive and currently out of stock. Karma will repay you my friend

4” or 5.5” and what carry strategy?

This thread sure did get a lot more interesting than I anticipated it being. Lots of good opinions and insites. Lots for me to think about.

4” or 5.5” and what carry strategy?

I intend to try to find a shootablw load and a defense load that are similar point of impact up to 10 yards or more. I like the looks of single action better, but if I run into an angry bear unexpectedly, I worry about the extra time needed to cock a hammer .

Sorry, my replies are inside the quote.

4” or 5.5” and what carry strategy?

Thanks, but I may have damaged my thumb shooting normal .44 mag out of a 629 6”. I would have to shoot your combo to even consider it. I’m a little gun shy ;) I’m planning to only shoot specials out of a 629/redhawk and just keep it loaded with magnums for the chance bear encounter. I suppose I...

4” or 5.5” and what carry strategy?

I was afraid this is the kind of responses I would get. However, i should clarify, that when a i say “concealed” I don’t mean concealed as much as I mean “not obviously open carrying”. The difference between “look at this jakass walking around like he’s Dirty Harry” vs “oh, That guys carrying a...

4” or 5.5” and what carry strategy?

I need some advice. Here is the background, I’m on a farm in grizzly country, so i’m looking to pick up a .44 revolver and eventually a lever action combo. I’m a little undecided on the 629 4” and the redhawk 5.5”. (Why doesn’t someone make a 5” with a short lug?) Anyways, I think it will...
