    Kimber 1911 Slide Stop Problem

It's called a slide "stop" for a reason. That's its primary purpose. Most folks prefer the slingshot method of grabbing the top of the slide and pulling it back a bit to release the pressure caused by the slide stop. I have a Kimber 45, too and had the same problem until I shot it some. But...

    Best Lube/Oil for a Parkerized M1911

have any of you guys with park'd guns coated them with grease or Vaseline and baked them to get it all soaked in? no personal experience here, but I have heard that an application like this helps to "complete" the parkerizing finish.

Lasers on pistols. Good? Not good? your thoughts?

kcshooter, I met that Mr. Murphy today. He snuck up on me sometime while I was carrying and turned the main switch of my CT grips off. Didn't even know he was there, that sneaky devil! Just noticed it now when I unholstered and put my rosco in the safe. hmmm.... So, anybody want to buy a set...

Lasers on pistols. Good? Not good? your thoughts?

I am in agreement with Sam - not for serious defensive purposes, but could be fun plinking. I've got a set of CT grips on my Kimber and am starting to find them more of a hindrance than a help. my main complaint is that when practicing drawing from the holster, the bright dot is nothing but a...

    Upgrades to Inexpensive 1911's

Jblackfish, I would be much more interested in the ruger if there were any to be had! There is so much to like about them except for the fact that there are none available. I may hold off on my purchase a few months to see if production can meet demand. Pinstripe, I'm not so interested in...

    Upgrades to Inexpensive 1911's

9mm, thanks for the insight. The 10-8 link was much appreciated as well. Of the more basic 1911's available - colt 1991, springer mill spec, etc - which would you recommend and why? Olympus, plus one on the gorgeous pistol! To you guys who have endorsed one model over others, how much...

    Upgrades to Inexpensive 1911's

Gentlemen, thanks again for the replies! I have to say that I'm leaning heavily toward the ACII. I don't have a whole lot to reference to, but the bluing on the metro pistols seems very well done and attractive!

    Upgrades to Inexpensive 1911's

Ghost Tracker: I appreciate your insight, and the way I read your advice is that I should save up to buy the 1911 that I really want and get it right the first time. I agree with this principle, but at this point I don't know what it is in a 1911 that I really want other than some basic...

    Upgrades to Inexpensive 1911's

guys, thanks to all of you for your input. bdb benzino: I appreciate the plug for the AC II. If I go with this pistol, I will most likely only upgrade the sights. essayons21 and Olympus: I know that anything made by men is prone to inconsistency, but how old are the RIA's that you have...

    Upgrades to Inexpensive 1911's

Hi, guys and gals! I am going to be taking a drink of the 1911 kool-aid here in the next few months and I'm trying to get as much information before I take the plunge. This will be my first 1911 and I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, due to family concerns and also because I don't...

    Crossbreed Supertuck - Creaky?

Jim, I have had the same experience with my supertuck. The creaking and squeaking drove me insane! I applied a strip of moleskin to the back of the clips that contacted the leather backing - stopped the creaking immediately. I'm not hugely impressed with the metal clips either, except for...

"Mil Spec" vs. Civilian--Which Grass is Greener?

Gents, I'm new to the AR world, too, but are there certain mil-spec items that are not necessary or even desirable on a civilian firearm? For instance, I've heard some people say that the m4 style feed ramps are better left off a civilian semi-auto weapon. Oh, and I use the term civilian...

    Crossbreed Holsters

good company to do business with I'll second the post on good customer service! I ran through two sets of kydex clips and now have the steel ones, and never paid a penny to get new sets. one phone call to them and they hooked me up. I recently sent it back to them because the kydex had...

    Anyone arm themselves at Home?

I'm in the always armed crowd, too. It is not always overly comfortable, but very comforting! So far, my wife and I have been blessed with four kiddos, and I arm myself because I cherish them and don't want anything to harm them. Pacpiper, I stay armed precisely because I have little kids...

    What magazines worth buying/subscribing to?

Personally, I like American Handgunner. Guns, too, but not as much. I don't look for a lot of technical information and I don't care to know how a certain gun shoots groups for all 75 loads tested by the author, or how such-and-such minuscule machining process can maybe increase accuracy...

How many guns do you carry and why?

I always carry one pistol strong side, a folding knife in my front right pocket, good light in my left front pocket (novatac 120t for now). Any more gear than that goes in the man-bag. usually always a spare mag, knife and light, and when my wife and I are out together, the extra pistol goes in...

Trade KelTec PF9 and Glock 22 for Springfield XD9sc?

put that glock in service! I think I would most definitely NOT go through with your proposed trade. Two guns for one that isn't of obviously more value has buyers remorse written all over it. And then you would be down one gun! I hate that feeling. So I would take a look at getting that...

Cross Breed Hosters - SuperTuck - Super Service

David, One more fan of crossbreed customer service. I broke several of the plastic clips in the few years I have had my supertuck and when the new steel clips came out, they sent them to me free of charge. Did the 'combat cut' on the holster for free, too, when it was first given to me and I...

    Taurus CT G2 Carbine

is taurus planning on upping the caliber to intermediate rifle rounds? the magazine well looks so absurdly large for pistol calibers. I wonder if this isn't the first step in setting up a taurus 'tactical' carbine. if it were offered in 5.56 and ran off of ar mags, I would be more interested...
