    Rear bag suggestions?

I used an old sock filled with beans for a while. Got one with a scope and use it now.

Would you trust unknown storage/reliability for this 70's NATO (FN Herstal) ammo? Here is the retail ad...

I shot a lot of the 7.62 milsurp when it was dirt cheap, all from the 70's and 80's. The Indian OHV ammo cans looked kinda rough and the bandos inside were a bit musty but it all shot, $25 for a 400 round can, on stripper clips in bandos. I'm on my last case of Port 7.62, early 80's production...

    I need a .40 S&W - Sig 229 (just thoughts)? or a Glock 23

If anything I would get a .357 Sig barrel to go with it. I have a 229 in 9mm, I picked up a complete .40 slide assy and a dozen mags for it then got the .357 barrel. The night sights were long dead so I used a TFO front and an Ameriglo plain black rear on it. There for a bit both calibers were...

A question about the Sig P226 Legion.

The ones sold to the general public are the gray PVD and the gray Cerakote. LE and first responders can get a black one with the regular Nitron. Which is applied by PVD, just a much better material than whatever the gray is. Four screws and swap the grip panels out. I don't like the Legion...

A question about the Sig P226 Legion.

They had pretty much just that, offered for a bit a few years ago. https://palmettostatearmory.com/sig-sauer-p226-9mm-classic-carry-talo-edition-pistol-e26-9-cc.html The older ones will have the gray PVD finish, looks chalky when dry and has the wear properties of chalk as well. The newer...

    Mounting a 34mm scope on an AR10

The Arken mount is a nice mount for the money, they have mounts with no cant now too, 1.5" scope centerline. $69.99 at Arken and there is a 25% off code at the moment bringing it down to $52.5 They use a 25 Torx plus for the caps and crossbolts, not a regular T25. The torque values for the...

Rifle Purchase from friend living in Oregon

No more FtF in Oregon. Well you can but you do it at an FFL and have it transfered and do a BGC, about $35 if the FFL is reasonable with the transfer.

    Night sights?

At 55 I kinda need a front sight I can see. Most of mine are pretty much set up the same. An orange front dot that I can see and no colored rings on the rear. I have Trijicon HD/XR with a U notch rear and orange front on a couple. XS RAM sights with an orange dot. Ameriglow I-dot with an orange...

    Night sights?

I have night sights but only because that's how they come. The majority of contrast sights have a tritium tube, if it was an option I would take the plain ones.

    AR buffer question.

There may be no universal optimal port diameter. But there is however an established and published baseline for what reliably works. Start changing things and you will have to adjust and tune for what you have. Not so much different than putting an engine together. You have a base engine that...

    AR buffer question.

Haven't played with a 24" But in talking with a guy that had one that wouldn't cycle with an A2 action he found the gas port at 0.086" Opening it up to 0.089" brought it on line. That was unsuppressed and IIRC 77gn FGMM. The 0.086" port would probably been about just right for suppressed use. I...

    AR buffer question.

I have no idea, I have no experience with 6 ARC. I would imagine that the best way to find out is to work it up yourself. 5.56 already has known baseline for what works reliably in a variety of conditions.

    AR buffer question.

SOTAR did a couple video's that shows just what happens when the system is over gassed and under buffered. They work and shoot.. For a little while then they just batter themselves to death. With a BRT gas drive you can reduce the gas but I've found it cheaper in the end to research a bit and...

    AR buffer question.

If you know the gas port size to start with it's a lot easier to match the action to the gas system. I don't use a carbine action for anything and have converted to an A5 action for anything I want to use an adjustable stock on. I use the A5H2 buffer and a green rifle spring for all of them...

    Scope for AR 10?

It depends on what I'm doing. A 1-8x24 for general use. An Arken SH4 4-16 for when I don't mind adding three pounds. At the moment it has a Romeo5 XDR on it.

Medium power variable optic for RECCE style rifle.

When I was looking for a mid range scope I wanted one that didn't weigh a ton, had a parallax adjustment and a reticle I could use. I wound up with a NF 2.5-10x42 on a NF mount. 26oz with scope and mount. A bit more than I was planning on spending but it checked all the boxes for me.

    AR triggers and accessories.

That's what I don't like about the MBT, the squared trigger. I didn't like the Armory Craft triggers I have for my Sig pistols for the same reason and they got pulled back out.

    AR triggers and accessories.

Schmid two stage triggers are an excellent value for under $100 Sold by several vendors, Aero, FCD, etc.. I picked up a couple from Centurion Arms Those replaced a BCM and PSA EPT trigger, that's made by Schmid also. When I was looking at getting a Ruger SR762 the one off the rack had a not so...

Building an AR-15 from the ground up

If you don't know what you like yet a complete LPK will get you started. Anymore I get the CMMG basic LPK, no grip or trigger, just pins, springs and such. I don't use the bolt catch or safety selector though as I prefer other ones. After that it's just a good barrel, gas system and BCG.
