The closest renting range to me is 50 miles, but they have a very limited selection. The closest with a good selection is closer to 70 miles away. But I already know what I like.
I'm surprised. Nothing works better in my Kimber Ultra Carry which is about the same size pistol. I'd call McCormick and chat with them. About the only other quality choice is Wilson. How many rounds have gone through your defender?
My first choice for her would be a S&W Lady Smith in 38spl. It's a great little snubbie for small handed ladies. And plenty of power to stop most bad guys. I'd pend some range time letting her practice with speedloaders and she'll be in good shape.
Later when she feels confident enough to...
I voted other... S&W M&P. For that price you can buy a brand new full sized or compact 9mm or 40S&W, or maybe get lucky and find a full sized M&P45 for that price. I'd suggest the M&P9c for your needs. I paid $500 for mine. Right now they have a $50 mail in rebate and 2 extra free mags (for a...
At the $1000 and below price point the Smith & Wesson SW1911 Target in stainless would be my choice. At the $2000 price point the hand built S&W PC1911 would be my choice. I think that both handily beat the Kimbers and Springers and I own and love my Kimber and my Springer (not the loaded)...
The PD (personal defense) has a carbon steel slide and lightweight frame for easy carry. I prefer a stainless slide and a stainless frame for a general purpose/target pistol for both looks and easy maintenance. If I planned on carrying it a lot I'd want the light weight frame. I'm guessing that...
I've had a 1911 as my trusted bedroom pistol for 20 some years. Over the next few months I anticipate transitioning my new S&W M&P45 w/thumb safety into that role. If I weren't making that radical change I'd be picking up an SW1911, and still may for target work. S&W makes a darned fine 1911...
I keep the humidity in my home around 45-50% so I like to keep desiccant in my safe. The one that I like is DampRid just because you can see how much water it's pulled out of the air and it's cheap to refill. I've seen where the 10.oz size has pulled a cup of moisture out of my little 15 cubic...
Go with the CCO type with the 4" barrel to get a bit better performance from your round of choice. I'd load it with either Speer 230gr Gold Dot for Short Barrels; Federal's LE only 230gr HST or Winchester 230gr Ranger-T. Those are all proven effective from a 4" pistol. If you go 3" then just...
I have one and love it. It feeds everything except Federal Target Grade Performance 40gr solid. Everything else feeds perfectly. It accurate and reliable and a pleasure to shoot. BTW: CDNN has (or had) the mags for $10ea.
Everyone should have at least one 1911. Cocked and locked is perfectly safe and nothing has a trigger like a professionally smoothed 1911 breaking around 4lbs.
