Ever had a gun dream? Share!

When my daughter was about two years old I had a dream in which she was about 8 or 9. She was playing in the front yard when a guy stopped his car at the edge of the street, jumped out, grabbed her by the arm and started dragging her to his car. At that time I walked around the corner of the...

All time best shooter related quotes?

The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. "Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?" "No Mam. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle." Jim

    Loads for a .36 colt.

The general rule of thumb is to load an amount of powder equivalent to one-half the caliber. That is, a .36 caliber pistol would take 18 grains of powder. I round off to 20 grains (because it's easier to see the markings on the powder measure) which works well for me. Jim

    Which NRA mag with membership?

I get both American Rifleman and America's 1st Freedom. Rifleman has more general and how-to info. 1st Freedom is mostly political, but also has some general info. They all three have some common content. Jim

    home defense shotgun

I have a Winchester Model 1300 w/ extended magazine, matte black, and composite stock. I think they are around $300. I am quite pleased with it - have also used it to shoot clays. (Always told my hunter ed students that it was my "quail gun." They always got a kick out of that.:)) Jim

New Jesse Stone on this Tuesday night the 22nd

Great. Love the Jesse Stone books and the first two movies. The third movie was locally pre-empted because the San Antonio Spurs were in a play-off game the night it was scheduled. Hope that doesn't happen again next week. I have a copy of the Stone Cold DVD. Anyone know if the other two...

Gun class not required by my state - What'd I miss?

Texas class covers some basic safety stuff, laws regarding when can/can not shoot, and a lot of emphasis on conflic resolution. Jim

My Wyoming Road Trip, May 2007

Travis - Great write-up. Wyoming and Montana are the prettiest places I've been. If you go back and visit Yellowstone and the Tetons, check out the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale. It's a very nice small museum - even have one of Jim Bridger's rifles. One of the things that most...

    Shooter and Marc Walberg...

I'm not a fan of Mark Walberg, but went to see the movie last night because it had GUNS. I was surprised when the opening credits said it was based on Steven Hunter's "Point of Impact" which is one of my favorite books. The movie followed the general outline of the book in an updated time...

    Custom ear plugs?

I paid $40 for mine. They do fit well, but are a bit hard to insert into the ear. Have to be lined up and turned just right to be seated properly. They do a good job of noise attenuation and I use them alone for both rifle and pistol (outdoors). After about an hour or so they do begin to get...

    Correct use of terms.

It's been almost 60 years since I saw the movie "Sgt York", but I seem to recall Gary Cooper saying, "This here rifle gun shoots low and to the right".:) Jim
