I understand the p&r as being "more desirable" then those that 'are not' part, and agree. That was/is perceived to be from a time when the craftsmen put extra attention to detail. It was stopped due to the realization it was unnecessary and improved assembly techniques could be utilized.

I don't know bout the "pencil barrel" recommendation, but I know my 64-3 heavy barrel feels perfect in my hand, and shoots +p's all the live-long day. A police trade-in from Pittsburgh, it rarely was shot and is as new as you could want, just a few handling marks from the officer who carried it...

I had an XD. Trigger spring broke before it got to 1k rounds. Also felt top heavy, looked kinda "busy" too.

I have a feeling if Hi-Point were bought out by Colt, those guns would be the greatest handgun since JMB made the 1911.:rolleyes:

It's actually a square butt, not round. I have the same gun, but previous owner converted from square to round, also hard-chomed it.

In the few weeks I've owned mine, I would say I've put about 600 rounds through it. Out of those, my son had (1) stovepipe(probably limp-wristed it) using reloads. I also have a Lone Wolf aftermarket barrel that I use in it for the lead bullets I shoot through it. Overall, I highly recommend it...

XD's have been around for awhile, just under another name. It's amazing how nobody cared about them, reviewed them, or gave two ****'s about them until Springfield put their name on them, then all of a sudden they are "way better then a Glock".:barf::barf: Saps.:rolleyes:

bullets I've ordered from Mike at mastercastbullets.com and he filled the order inside a month. Nice guy. I just tried betterbullets.com, and it took just over a week to receive 2k 200gr SWC's for my 45acp.

My S&W 686 came with Hogue monogrips and when I bought my S&W mdl 64, I immediately put Hogue monogrips on it as well. They may not look as perty as fancy wood, but for function, they are an excellent choice.

I've also got a 686-5 manufactured around that time, maybe earlier. Before it got sent back to S&W to fix a firing pin issue, it had a very good trigger to it in DA, in SA it was almost hair-trigger.:eek: Although I didn't ask for a trigger job, I suspect something was done as the DA is now...
