    New Agent load suggestions?

Given the Colt bankruptcy today and that I found out these were discontinued a year or two ago, I picked one up from Buds. They have glacial shipping, so it will be a while before it gets here. It's a 3" 1911 in 45 ACP. I'm a Colt fan, and although I suspect the bankruptcy will matter very...

    Sierra GameKing 165gr SPBT

Easiest load development ever. I got a deer tag for the first time in decades, and I don't really own any hunting guns. I do have a pile of Garands and have good MatchKing loads. I took my 168gr load with IMR4064 and plugged the 165 into it. I shot 5 rounds into a nice group over the...

Epiphany with media in flash hole.

I'm prepping a tub of 30-06 brass for a match next week and deer season. My usual prep is: Tumble in walnut Lube Size/decap Trim Tumble in corncob Spend an hour picking the stupid corncob out of the flash holes Feed to the Dillon Station one on my Dillon is empty, and I just prime...

    12,000 rounds

I got to the bottom of an ammo can last time I went to the range, so I fired up the Dillon. My log says I'm past 12,000 rounds since I started reloading. That's probably 2/3 .45ACP and 1/3 30-06. It's around 300 pounds of lead downrange. Time flies when you're having fun. -J.

    Pinned Smith Vortex/Supressor alignment

I'm planning on picking up a Colt 14.5" upper and having a Vortex pinned to make it long enough that I don't need a tax stamp. It's a hassle in my county for the time being. At some point I am thinking I will get a suppressor for it. The question is, ADCO will take apart the upper...

New York Times article on minority gun owners

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/15/us/minority-gun-owners-face-balancing-act-weighing-isolation-and-stigma-of-violence.html This is the top of the page article on NYTimes.com right now. It's an interesting read in general, but I'm really surprised to see it at the top of the site on a day...

    Reloading Therapy

I've had a few bad weeks at work and have been feeling very run down. My reloading bench has been a mess with other projects on it. Also, it's been bitter cold here until the last few days, so the garage is pretty chilly to work in. My kid was needing some daddy time, and so we decided to...

    Win 30-06 brass quality report

I just picked up 200 pieces of new Winchester .30-06 brass from PV. I've read awful things about their quality lately, so I was worried. I weighed the bunch to sort, and this was before any prep was done. ~100 weighed between 185.5 and 186.5 ~80 weighed between 186.5 and 187.5 ~20...

    Stuck Case Sticky?

I stuck a .30-06 case just now, and then popped it out with the homestyle stuck case extractor. I was setting up the sizing die and doing repeated incremental sizing and I guess I ran out of lube on the case. It went so smooth compared to the first time I stuck one, that it occurred to me that...

    Headspace and OAL, cautionary tale

I'm a big fan of knowing the size of your chamber, sizing brass to fit, and seating bullets with an understanding of how far you are from the rifling. I just got a Garand rebuilt with a match chamber and Krieger barrel. It shot GI ball with reasonable accuracy on the test target, and I had...

    Hangfire! Hangfire!

I had an unbelievable event today at the range. In one batch of rounds, I had almost 1/3 of them hangfire in my Garand. Normal ejection, brass looks fine, solid hits on primers, unsure of hits on target since I moved my head away from the sights while waiting. The last hangfire was about 90...

    New Dillon 550B thoughts

I got my 550B set up and running, and for those thinking about getting one, I thought I'd post some thoughts. Overall, it's an excellent, well thought out machine, and it works really well. I got it for Bullseye pistol reloading mainly, since I go through over 500 rounds of 45ACP per...

    Ordered a Dillon!

Winter pistol season is coming up, and I spent more time reloading than shooting last year. I ordered a 550B this afternoon, and spent the rest of the evening waiting on the porch for the BWT to come and drop it off. Dang...nothing yet! ;) I always order new toys right before a holiday...

    Current MBC wait time?

Since MBC is no longer delivering bullets the week before you place your order, what's the current wait time? I just ordered another 2000 to feed the Dillon I'm ordering after the 1st of the month. J.

    M4gery Build

Quick question to help me plan. I got a couple of stripped lowers coming, and one build is going to be an M4 kick around plinker toy, and I like lightweight. SBR is a bit of a pain in my county, but I'll do it eventually. I'm trying to decide between 2 options for uppers: 14.5"...

    NPR Story on Reloading

This came up in my podcasts this morning. Here's the link to the web page. http://www.npr.org/2013/07/06/199057377/with-bullets-scarce-more-shooters-make-their-own I think that it's interesting that various left leaning media organizations have been doing a reasonable job at digging into...

    Kid's first rifle thoughts

I have a 6yo daughter who I want to take shooting from time to time. Unfortunately she is pretty small...my 2yo son is almost as big as she is. Anyway, my old single shot 22 rifle has waaaay to long of a length of pull...it's about 12 or 13 inches, which is similar to all of my other rifles...

Model 94 30-30 Williams sight question

I get about 4MOA out of my Winchester 94 with the stock open sights. I'm tempted to pick up a Williams peep sight and give it a try, but I though I'd ask those who have switched how much accuracy improvement they have found. I shoot highpower, so aperture sights are very familiar to me...

    Statistics are great!

So, if 1,000 monkeys type long enough, one will accidentally type out hamlet. Also, if you do enough load development, you'll eventually find a sub MOA group coming out of a 2 MOA rifle. I got a 0.975" 100yd 5 shot group out of my Garand last night figuring out the velocity curve for of a new...

    Mystery Package on the Way!

So, the nightmare backlog of orders has an interesting upside. I have 10 pounds of something coming from Bruno Shooters. Primers? Powder? Bullets? Bananas? Who knows? They are too busy to send an internet invoice so we'll see what it is when it shows up. Powder Valley is similar, but...
