    First timer - 9mm

If you can't find load data for the X-treme bullets, you have several options: 1) Use lead data for a similar bullet. X-treme bullets are soft lead, with thin copper plating. They'll behave more like unjacketed lead (expanding more easily in the bore), so you can't really go wrong using lead...

Carrying a G19 OWB. How to do it?

Many good choices. My favorite is Mitch Rosen's Upper Limit holster. The Express model also works just as well. It's a high riding, straight vertical drop holster, and holds the gun snugly to the body, as long as you have a decent belt. 1.5" belt loops, so don't try to use those flimsy...

    Softest shooting .40 Pistol

All things being equal, a heavier pistol will have less felt-recoil than a lighter pistol. However, not all things are equal. Polymer frames, while weighing less than steel or aluminum alloy frames, have a good bit of flex to them, which helps soak up some of the felt recoil as well...

    9mm +P+ Ammo...What Guns Can Take?

Actually, +P in the 9 mm Parabellum caliber does mean up to 10% higher pressure, which is capped at 38,500 psi. You can be assured, that no SAAMI-spec +P 9 mm load will exceed that number, assuming that there are no defects in the manufacturing. However, +P+ has no such limitations. While...

    9mm luger carry loads

Any premium load from any of the reputable manufacturers is going to do the job, as long as you do yours (placing the round in its target). I have equal confidence in a Remington 147 grain Golden Saber standard pressure BJHP, as I do in the Winchester SXT 127 grain +P+ JHP. These companies...

Blue Dot: To mag primer or not

First, and foremost, get a more modern reloading manual. Manufacturers can, and do, change their recommendations on a regular basis. If the manual says to use standard primers, then use standard primers. Only use magnum primers when the recipe calls for it.

Progressive presses - not for new reloaders?

But... Aren't we manufacturing miniature rockets of a sort? :) There's absolutely nothing wrong learning on a progressive. I've taught many people how to reload for the first time, on my Dillon RL550B. Just because it has progressive capabilities doesn't mean that you have to use it in...

    9mm +P+ Ammo...What Guns Can Take?

Glocks can tolerate it, as can HK's, and Sig's. Many guns can tolerate +P+. I wouldn't shoot it on a regular basis, though, since more stress on the gun will wear it out sooner, plain and simple. The candle that burns twice as brightly, only burns half as long, and by shooting +P+ loads...

What's you favorite lead bullet for 45ACP?

I'll be the oddball here, and suggest Oregon Trail's Lasercast 230 grain RN bullet. They aren't kidding when they say "no leading guarantee." I even shoot these out of the polygonally rifled barrel of my Glock 21, and do not see any leading.

What's the most overpriced firearm you've seen at a gunshow?

At every Alabama gun show that I have been to, recently, there's one guy who keeps trying to sell what looks like a Glock 30 in terrible condition, for 800 dollars. The handle looks like some dog chewed it up, and then someone put a soldering iron to it. The darn thing is so spiky, that you'd...

    Overheard at the counter today.

We've all made mistakes somewhere along the way, and I'm certain someone has snickered behind our backs at our honest mistakes. This guy is at least doing the right thing by asking for help, and learning something in the process.

What's so great about Spyderco knives?

I have owned several Spydercos, and have always been pleased with the quality. Spyderco's customer service is quite good as well. One time, I had loaned an Endura to a "friend" of mine who had then used to try to etch glass (he couldn't find his triangular file). Well, after many uses in...

Lee FCD and a Dillon SDB?

If you have a Square Deal B, and want to use the Lee Carbide Factory Crimp Die, you can find a used Lee Challenger Press, and set it up as a stand-alone press just for the FCD.

Missouri (One Term Bob) Holden vetoes CCW measure

In the end, the folks of Missouri may actually come out better than ever. Keep in mind, that even though Holden won the election in 2000, at least that left Jim Talent free to challenge Carnahan for the Senate position, and as a result, Missouri ended up getting a strongly pro-2nd Senator...

    Bumper Snickers ...

One bumper sticker that was quite funny was one that said "My guns have killed fewer people than Ted Kennedy's car" but was modified a bit. "Fewer" was scratched out and "as many" was written in there.

    So what's the point

A true 10 mm load (not the FBI-lite) will give .41 magnum performance, and even then, will approximate the lower to middle areas of the .41 magnum's performance range. As for the efficacy of a certain caliber over another, as long as you do your part, and place the shot, while selecting a...
