I ordered a 45 Colt conversion cylinder for my 58 NMA while I was on Taylor's website I read if you shoot Black powder cartages in their conversion cylinders you need to pull the firing pins when cleaning. Is this something you guys are doing?
I have a Pietta NMA that I bought 13 years ago I want to buy a 45Colt cylinder for it Will the 45 Colt cylinders they are selling now fit my 13-year-old NMA. serial # R362673
This CVA 45cal pistol belonged to a buddy of mine it was beat up. I took from him he thought he lost it. I fixed it up and gave it back to him. He thanked me then gave it to me. It was banged up it had light rust, I pulled two patched balls with charges. The nipple and cleanout screw were frozen...
You can use a dragoon nipple wrench to hold the main on dragoons. I find using a u-bolt easier to use plus it also works on 1858 NMAs. All it is a two-dollar u-bolt. I put shrink tubing on the u-bolt black tape on the crossbar.
I have a Lee bottom pour casting pot. I have never had cast iron casting pot I bought this pot and dipper for six dollars at an estate sale. I was thinking I would wire brush it and heat it up and rub it down with Crisco? Does this seem like a sound plan?
Nipple wrenches, I have been making these for years. I make them from deep sockets for use with a 1/4 socket wrench and regular sockets for use with nut drivers and allen wrenches. If you have a nipple pick from an old nipple wrench you can drill and tap a nut driver for it.
From years of hard work, my wrist are shot. Using a powder flask and spout is just painful. I was using a Tupperware container and homemade dippers and it was working good. But what I did not like the Tupperware if I did not have a loading table and it did not fit in any of my pockets. I was on...
Bounced some cans around out at the farm. Used up a bunch of preloads and paper carts I had laying around. I thought I would try some Vasoline for lube. It shot good with Vasoline. Vasoline did not work well on the cylinder pin. I was cleaning with hand cleaner everything cleaned up as usual...
I have been making caps a few at a time I have been using a snap-off utility knife for me it has been slow going cutting the caps off the paper. I got some carpet trimmer blades out of my carpet box they worked great. They are like a utility blade but tinner and way sharper and they have a...
I am making another batch of E's Red bore cleaner https://blog.roninsgrips.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/EdsRed.pdf I bought some extra lanolin to mix with beeswax to see how it works. I don't do mutton tallow I bought some from Dixie it was foul. I made some lube with it smelled sooo bad I...
artcicap in few threads posted a few how-tos that Smokein'Joe posted. Playing around in the shop I did two of them. I did his short money cylinder press. https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/i-just-ordered-one-of-these-loaders.576127/#post-7121933 I tried it it works I am going to the...
Got a box of .440 and .551 balls for a dollar each. Got a thousand Lazer cast .452SWC lubed bullets for 25.00 and three old mint muzzleloading books including a first edition Lyman black powder manual for 5.00
I bought a new powder flask from Amazon It is a cylinder flask instead of a spout it comes with a powder measure that fits in the flask so you put the flask on the measure open the gate fill the measure close the gate and take the flask off the measure. It's pretty slick you can also use shell...
On another forum, there was a thread on black powder books. I have the Lyman black powder manual and Sixguns. Two books that were recommended were Black Powder Gun Digest and Shooter's Bible Black Powder Guide. I am 3/4 the way reading the Black Powder Gun Digest. It is an old book it dates back...
When I can't sleep I spend my nights reading on the internet. I came across this and thought it was interesting. https://www.n-ssa.net/vbforum/archive/index.php/t-1237.html
I was shooting .323 balls I bought online. I have a Lee .319 mold they fit but I don't feel they are tight enough when I shoot them I use wads and lube over the ball. Not much room left for powder. A while back I found a stash 12ga #00 buck I had forgotten about. I have been taking them apart...
I came across an old article that Ed Haris wrote. https://www.camp22.org/black-powder-pages/handling-cap-and-ball-revolvers In the article he talks about cleaning cap and ball revolvers using waterless hand cleaner. After going to the range yesterday I thought I would give a try in the past Ed...
I have looking for caps and small pistol primers none to be had anywhere today I went to a local gun shop and they had a full stock of #11 CCI caps so I picked 1,000 @ 4.99 a hundred. Now I need to find small pistol primers.

I was wondering if anyone else buys bullets from Bear Creek. He has a little shack out in the country near where I live. He swages moly coated bullets both modern and obsolete. If you have special needs and want a bullet custom-sized he can do that. I have been shooting Trail Boss cowboy loads...
