A reload has a very tiny 'ridge' above the head: .303.

It sounds like you should take the rifle to a gunsmith and have your chamber checked out. If the cases are stretching you will not have a ridge on the outside of the case it will be just a shiny ring around the case, about 1/4 inch up from the head. You will feel a slight raised area but not a...

what other than the wrong powder causes these signs?

From my 40+ years experince of reloading, it looks like a powder problem, a under load can and will cause that problem and a over load will do the same thing. Check out your scale and see it they are working properly. A electronic scale can be thrown of by a few factors also, draft...

    Berdan primers

I don't think that there is any way. As in, the militery brass you have two small flash holes in the case. If you were to drill a regular flash hole in the military case it would be oversized, as there would now be three flash holes in the primer pocket. This would lead to having a flash back...

Decapping live primers You can decap live primers, but you have to be very careful. I made a special decapper years ago that I used.Had to make up a decapping pin that fit into the case, wiggle it around until I foung the primer hole and them lightly tap the pin with a block of wood.
