    Minimum and Starting Loads

Thanks RCM. Both of these loads have proven to be extremely accurate, and I do pay close attention to their ignition and performance. Thanks for the input - that was the confirmation I was looking for.

    Minimum and Starting Loads

Is there anything wrong with loading below the starting load for metalic pistol cartridges PROVIDED - ignition is always reliable and complete, there's a consistent report, and a clean hole through the target ? For instance, I load 125 gr. Flat Nose and 148 gr. D.E.W.C. with 2.7 - 2.8 gr of...

    Date My S&W 17-6

Can anyone help me date my Smith & Wesson Mod 17-6 Serial # BEA04XX ? I just found one in 95% + condition, in the original box. Great piece, shoots well, and is pristine. Thanks. john

Can anyone help date my Model 12

I just picked up a Model 12 Trap. Standard 30" barrel, full choke, pistol grip monte carlo stock. Serial numbers match. It's in at least 95% condition. It operates well, and shoots well - although the comb is just a tad low for me. I may sell my Perazzi ! (only kidding) I'm curious about it's...

    Shotgun Hulls

I reload STS's using about 18 gr. of Clays, Winchester Primers, and Rem Fig 8 or Winjammer Wads. W/ 1 1/8 oz. of shot that's a good 2 3/4 DE load, and chrono's about 1150. The STS's and AA's reload virtually the same. I get about 10+ out of hulls with my load. The issue with the [new] two...

    Kimber VS. Springfield

I have a Kimber Team Match II. Never had a FTF even during break in. I often shoot a VERY light loads with it (4.5 gr W231 under a 200 gr. LSWC) with a 13# spring and it does great. My only complaint is that for a target piece it came with a CRAPPY tripper. Lots of creep, so a proper trigger job...

    Need a .45ACP Load for a 1911 with a slide mounted scope

Just noticed that Steve, JOATMON is in Lynden, WA. Just down the block - I'm in Gig Harbor, WA. Thanks for the post.

    Need a .45ACP Load for a 1911 with a slide mounted scope

Put together two new loads last night based on info posted here and recco's from local bullseye shooters with the same set up. 4.0 gr Bullseye and 4.5 gr. WST both under a 200 gr. LSWC. Just got back from the range. Both cycled the gun every time with a 12# recoil spring. Actually, it was 98% (1...

    Need a .45ACP Load for a 1911 with a slide mounted scope

My 5.3 gr of 231 under a 200 gr LSWC chrono'd at 853. Avg Dev 10.3, Std Dev 12.7 While I'm not particularly hung up on manuals, most say that 5.6 gr is max load for 231 and a 200 gr. LSWC. The 5.3 gr 231 load may still be a little light, but since 231 is a much slower powder than Bullseye - I...

    Need a .45ACP Load for a 1911 with a slide mounted scope

Byron, Thanks for the reply. I tried 5.3 gr of Win 231 this morning under a 200 gr.LSWC. It was much better, but still not there, even with an 11# spring. Since that's getting near a max load for 231 I don't want to go any higher. I'm suspecting that 231 just burns too slow for a crisp...

    Need a .45ACP Load for a 1911 with a slide mounted scope

fecmech - thanks for the post. That's exactly what I was looking for. I've already loaded up some test loads with 4.8 and 5.3 gr of 231 - which is a bit heavier equivalent to 3.8 gr of bullseye. I'll try it tomorrow. The lightest spring I have in my shop is 11#, so I'll test with that...

    Need a .45ACP Load for a 1911 with a slide mounted scope

Hmmm. Probably 75% of the Bullseye Shooters out there use slide mounted scopes given that the barrel is more consistently aligned with the slide rather than the frame - so - I decided to go the same route. All of my other 1911's have 11# springs (for my light loads) and have no problem...

    Need a .45ACP Load for a 1911 with a slide mounted scope

I recently added a Clark Custom Colt Gold Cup to my collection. It's my first 1911 with a slide mounted scope. I chose the Ultradot Matchdot primarily for it's lifetime warranty. This thing really shoots nice - groups about 1.75" at 50 yds from a rest. But I need to work up a new load. The...
