Since I originally posted my above pictures, I replaced that thin steel sheet with a 3/8 inch aluminum plate with the same wood backing.
In general, a progressive press puts more average stress on a press mount than a simple single stage press. This has been absolutely rock solid and a real...
When I lived six months in a hotel as part of a relocation, I was able to reload on a side table in the hotel room.
I had a cheap Lee press, but any single stage could work the same way. Press was mounted on a 2x4, and the 2X4 was clamped to the table front and back with C-clamps...
S&W M&P .40.
Well, I started writing this message while I was sitting on hold with S&W customer support.
I'd had occasional failures to fire due to light primer strikes -- roughly four-five times in the last couple thousand rounds. The primer will have a very light dimple. Tap, rack &...
Biggest problem I see with the cheapo electronic scales is zero drift. I could never count on the displayed weight to be accurate.
I am back to using my bean scale.
Kinetic hammer solved the problem. Thanks for a solution that worked.
Didn't try tumbling again without media, so I don't know if that would have worked or not.
Alright, I was sloppy in terms of adding cases to the tumbler. I inadvertently tumbled both .45 ACP and .223 Rem cases at the same time in walnut media.
The .223 cases are jammed so tightly within the .45 case with the walnut media in between the inner and outer case walls that it is darn...
Several have mentioned "gift tax".
The person that pays the gift tax is the person who made the gift, not the person who receives the gift. It is not income to the gift recipient.
Conversely, if a relative "loans" you money with interest owned, and then you default on the loan where the...
Lyman in the last ten years bears no resemblance to the Lyman of the 1970's.
Their quality has gone down the rathole. I've had to send more stuff back to Lyman for repair than all other equipment vendors combined. I'll never buy anything else from Lyman.
First, let me say that I already have the Explosion Shield on my Loadmaster. I figured as much money as I have spent on reloading equipment and components, I could not even comprehend not being willing to spend $4.99 for the explosion shield. It is cheap insurance for all Loadmaster owners and...
Well, I enjoyed the experiment and it is over.
My SA and my Colt both digested the oversized bullets without any issue. The Para wouldn't chamber them reliably -- 5 of the first 10 rounds wouldn't chamber correctly.
As someone mentioned, it doesn't really take that much time to size them...
Alright, pondering a little laziness by loading "as cast" instead of taking the time to size these bullets.
Would like your opinion on any pros/cons, or am I simply over thinking this.
Bullet is the MP clone of the H&G #68 200 gr LSWC, loaded for target shooting (IPDA) at mid range levels...
Well, I wanted to follow up by thanking you for the idea. That is what I ended up doing.
I countersunk the press mount bolts so that the plate sits flush on the bench. It is a 1/16 steel plate backed by 3/4 inch oak plywood.
If anyone has QUICKLOAD, it would be theoretically interesting to see what the pressure and velocity differences would be due to the case volume difference between a .357 Mag and .38 SP. In other words, take a published minimum load for .38 SP with 158 jacketed bullet, then run the numbers for...
I used to use Copper Choreboy wrapped around a brush.
The I tried Brownell's Lewis Lead Remover. It is terrific; I highly recommend.

I've been pondering this. I think it would be difficult for me to mark the holes, drill and tap them accurately enough without a drill press.
Before, when I was simply mounting bolts drilled though wood, my holes were a little bigger than the bolt dia. to give me a little "slop" to have...
