    642 Club Part Three

Hi everyone, This past weekend I traded into a nice no-lock 642 :-) This isn't my first, in fact I think I was in Part 2 of the 642 club. I like to trade a bit locally and through that this is my second 642, I've had 2 637s and a 36 (one at a time, not all at the same time). I traded a LCR...

    Shooting with high cylinder gap

Sorry for just now getting back to the thread, I missed the email notification about replies. I ended up taking it with me and letting her (my mother inlaw) shoot about 2 cylinders full of some light .38 though it. The flames out the side were noticeably larger but that was the only issue. (On...

    Shooting with high cylinder gap

I received a S&W 19 has a gift a few years ago and as I started to learn more about revolvers I came to realize it had about .005in of end shake. I fixed the end shake using the rings from Brownells but now the problem is that my cylinder gap is around .014. I dont plan on leaving it this way...

Ah, The Beauty of Pocket Guns

I too am a huge fan of pocket guns, though I prefer the J frame to the .380 offerings. It takes a little more work when shopping for pants but nothing too difficult. A pocket gun takes me from carrying 75% of the time to 100% of the time (except for work where it is not permitted). Not to...

    What am I missing?

Didn't think of a single action .44, not a bad idea at all! A commander 1911 isn't different enough from my Springfield for me to bother. But a .40 P226 would be good, I don't have anything in that platform. I've had half a dozen Sigs over the years and loved them all but never had the 226...

    What am I missing?

So it'll be some time before I purchase another pistol but I'm already pondering about what I want next. At the moment I feel like I've got a pretty well rounded collection going. So I want to poke the brain of THR for thoughts on what I get next, taking into account: I don't hunt...

Striker vs Hammer Fired Polymer Frame Pistols

I'm perfectly happy with both, one of my favorite carry guns in the past has been the P228 and my current carry is a G19 or a J frame. Two thoughts that I admit to having 0 proof to support and are pure speculation (or BS if you prefer) I think one of the things that makes the striker fired...

Pick a Pistol Endless stress & indecision

In my opinion, none of those offer features worth the price difference between then and the XD (And I love Sigs and want a 3.8 too) so that would be my first choice. Assuming the Glock feels good to your hand that'd be my second choice, the couple dollars for it vs the new XD are worth it in my...

    I Hated Glocks

Just got a G19 today, a used but mint condition 2nd gen with the tupperware box. I've had a few G23's but could never warm up to them, perhaps being 9mm instead of .40 will do the trick

you favorite COMPACT all metal 9mm?

I would between 3, the P228, P6 and the Springfield EMP. All fit my hand perfectly, and are comfortable to shoot. If i tossed capacity out of the picture the EMP would probably the best for me, mainly because it worked well with switching to a full size 1911 .45 for home defense.

    Trading for "NIB"

I'm in the process of a gun trade on another forum. The other person is putting a lot of emphasis on their gun being "NIB" while mine is Used. I'm curious if anyone else cares about the concept of NIB from anyone other than a shop? To me it makes no difference. No gun has an odometer to...

Factory Revolver boxes from gun store that has been closed 30 y

I would gather a list of serial numbers off the boxes and post them on the market place sections of their respective forums. I personally wouldn't be interested in buying a box just to have, but would definitely be interested if it were *the original* box for my S&W.

    Spotting someone carrying

One sign or "red flag" i've noticed is someone carrying a cellphone on left side of their belt even though they're obviously right handed. If you're going to do that at least learn to use your left hand to retrieve it! I was watching someone in line at a store once with that setup. It was...

    American Rifle

I have to say the results are a little surprising to me, I didn't even think of a bolt action for some reason and thought the muzzle loader would get more support

    American Rifle

That's a good idea, I'm a big fan of one of Uberti's 1866 Yellowboy in .44 magnum. Something about the octagon barrel is appealing to me

    American Rifle

I thought it was common practice for someone to choose "Other" then specify what in a reply

    American Rifle

I'm considering a new rifle just as a "toy". I don't hunt so enjoyment of shooting is more important to me than power, however I don't want to limit myself to a .22 either (I have one anyways). It won't be shot frequently enough that ammunition price becomes a big deal, and I may even reload...

    BUG... really?

My view is in a primary weaponsfirepower (for lack of a better word) is more important than concealment & convenience, within reason of course. Since the chance of ever needing a back up gun is lower, concealment & convenience outrank firepower for this choice. But firepower remains important...

    G21sf

The ambi mag release bothered my middle finger a lot, but one could file it down pretty easily i imagine (no doubt hurting resale if that matters). I think due to the mechanism its tighter than the standard mag release, in both seating a mag and releasing one. Otherwise its a great gun. Some...
