    777 price in the UK!

Wow. £39 is apalling. Hope you shoot a .31 or a .36, not a Dragoon! I've considered moving to the 'states many times, but never gone through with it. Have visited Spokane, WA and California. Preferred WA. Fultons blamed the exchange rate and UK shipping charges.

    777 price in the UK!

Well.. you're both right, but I was already at Bisley visiting the NRA, so it was easy to walk into the shop and buy some - and I don't shoot MLAGB competitions (although my club is MLAGB affiliated) - just Historic Revolver at my club. To tell the truth I had not asked how much it would be...

    777 price in the UK!

Bought a pound of Hogdon's 777 FFFG today (incidentally at Fultons, the famous gunshop at Bisley shooting ground) and it cost me £38! Deep breath, my American friends... That's $54! (yes, for a pound of powder!) Fifty-four US Dollars. Perhaps I should have asked Mr Obama to bring me some...

    complete disassembly

I use WD... but only to displace moisture after cleaning and I always wipe the residue off asap. Out of interest... what's the problem with WD?

Multiple ignition in cap and ball revolvers - Cause?

Mtn Hunter, I agree on the RWS 1075 caps. I have Ampco nipples on my '51 and the 1075's are a great fit.

Multiple ignition in cap and ball revolvers - Cause?

I agree with you Gatofeo, the CAS guys at my range have experienced chain fires on a couple of occasions - to the best of my knowledge in each case ignition was suspected to be from the rear. I say this as these guys spend time casting properly over-sized ball of the proper diameter and use lube...

    This is not proper....correct?

Does the arbor move in the frame? If it's loose, there are options to improve the situation - a search here should provide plenty of suggestions. On my 51 Navy, I staked it with a center punch and that was enough to take up the play on the thread. Let us know how you get on........

    Powder drum shim

I'm guessing it's simply to ensure that the thread is fully engaged and the nipple is fully seated. Having said that, I use plumber's PTFE tape on mine to guard against erosion/seizure and have no issues. Maybe worth trying?

Any 'black' powder that can be shot indoors?

This subject has been extensively explored here in the UK since many bought muzzle loading revolvers after the loss of (legally held) cartridge handguns in '97. Many of us now have converted our BP guns to fire nitro loads, ignited by shotgun primer (cylinder is extensively modified) for...

Cleaning Black Powder Revolvers in the Dishwasher

I'd say this would be ok with something like a stainless ROA, but I'd be very concerned about unknown quality 'stainless' or worse still, blued steel rusting. On occasions I have dishwashed some of our older baking tins etc - and they often come out with red rust spots... I'd say it's easier...

    Bisley's in Cap and Ball

Please pack them in a stout box and send them to me in the UK!! :) (only kidding.....) I cannot find these in the UK, although they were undoubtedly intended for our market. I'd settle for a standard '73 in this format, but have not seen one for sale in ages - I guess the BWSS (British...

51 Navy Lever Drops On Firing

Thanks for the suggestions.. Thanks for your help - I never realised that 777 needed a reduced load, having moved from Pyrodex to 777 I (wrongly) assumed that it would also be equivalent to BP/vol. As far as using real BP against 777/Pyrodex, UK laws on explosives require a licence...

51 Navy Lever Drops On Firing

Although I normally shoot my 51 Navy with a very light load for paper punching (777 - I think about 18gns equivalent BP vol) I decided last weekend to shoot with a full load - in other words the chamber filled to the brim then the ball seated on top till it just cleared the front face of the...

Scrat, your wish is my command! - Well, at least for this request... I also think they are brass framed copies, as a real London Navy would run to more than £1000 even in poor condition. The Sea Service flintlocks on Victory looked very real though - and they would be worth even more...

Gentlemen, I do not know the answer to your questions about the Colts on Warrior.. but I only live 45 mins from there and am planning a trip in a couple of weeks while my kids are on school holiday. I will ask and report back! By the way, HMS Victory is just along from Warrior - and while...

    Pietta 1860 loose arbor question

There was a thread on here that I read - there are lots of ways of fixing this, but on my '51 Navy I used an automatic center punch to tighten the frame around the arbor where it appears in the hammer cut. That has lasted hundreds of rounds.. here's a similar one - explains all the options...

    Suppose It's 1864

On the subject of corrosion: I believe that the corrosive effect associated with black powder/pyrodex is caused by it attracting moisture. Therefore if the cylinder is loaded without an air gap and then sealed with wax or whatever, it will not allow the ingress of moisture and corrosion will...

Evening GoTCha! - It's a while since I sold my ROA but IIRC there's no transfer bar. 99.8% positive.. Preposterous!
