Ref: SPR - Wasn't it Colin Powell who wanted to know why they just didn't blow the bridge to begin with?
Ref: Mythbusters - I don't know about you guys, but this is why I watch:

Based on the above link - it looks like Gus' belt has a Civil War-era (percussion) cap pouch attached.
However, this doesn't really answer the cap-and-ball v. percussion question at all since it was a common practice to use a cap pouch (or even several cap pouches - the result looking like...
1st photo - middle sword is a US M1860 Staff & Field Officer's sword. Apparently there were a lot of these made/imported during the SP-AM War era, the "issue" version had a folding guard - but a lot of the commercial versions had a solid guard (BTW - I have one that is identical to the one in...
Now the good news/bad news:
I saw an actual pre-1964 Colt AR-15 in a pawn shop here in WV today - thing was in great shape, etc.
It was also $2,500.00.
I guess building you own is an excellent idea after all!
I've never had any problems with my G22 - fun to shoot, rarely (if ever) jams and accurate at reasonalbe ranges (I don't - and wonder why anyone would - expect .5 MOA at 300 yards or whatever, but nice tight groups at 100 yards are typical for me). Decent gun for a decent price - 'nuff said...
I saw this story regarding a local gun with John Brown Raid (Civil War era) provenance in the local rag and though I'd share with the group:

That's a Himen Lebman full-auto 1911 conversion.
Lebman owned a Sporting Goods store that specialized in (then-legal) conversions of this type - he was also a popular dealer/source for Thompson SMGs and Colt Monitor Machine-rifles ("civilianized" BAR).
I had a "Finn-captured" (SA mark) Tula 91/30 that I hit a 7-11 stryfoam coffee cup dead center at 100yds with Bulgarian ammo - off-hand/kneeling - didn't even disturb the liquid inside (honestly, I though I'd made a clean miss until I looked). Probably the most accurate rifle I've ever fired...
I have a 1912 Colt Police Positive (.32 Colt New Police - basically the same round as a .32 S&W Long) I'd use for CCW without a second thought.
I also picked-up an old Iver Johnson for $75 one time for nostalgic reasons - according to family lore, my Grand-Father and Uncles (mom's side) who...
I have a #711 in olive-drab I use constantly - and another 711 (in black) I had to buy my wife when she saw just how sharp mine is. I also have a #780 Tri-Flex as my main "field knife" - everything came from Ben's Backwoods and I can't say enough good things about the knives or the dealer!
They're worth a bit mainly because they appeal to several collector groups (knife collectors, commemorative collectors, Case collectors, space/NASA collectors etc.).
I'd suggest you try posting it on www.collectspace.com - you're sure to find some takers there...
