My new XD-40 at the range today (4/19/08)

Yeah, the trigger tends to be gritty and drag for the first few hundred rounds. I've been tempted to get a trigger job, but as the problem worked itself out I never had. Springfield may well want to do something about that. It's my one gripe about XD's. How did the Raniers work for you? I...

    Springfield Barrel Pics attention

It seems to be a SA thing. My Czech built SA-2000 (XD forerunner) didn't have it.

    Conversions to different caliber

XD 40 to 10mm. Never ever to try again. It has....issues with feeding. Plus waaaaay too much machine work and mig welding, and casting of followers and end caps for mags... and breechface machining. In addition to buying spring stock for a new recoil spring, and then more for ruining the first...

    Springfield Barrel Pics attention

All three of mine have it as well, the sub-compact, service and tactical. I assumed it acted as a sorta wedge to lock up the barrel, but it's just a guess.

    safest place to live??

I'm wracking my brain trying to remember the formula of a friend of mine. It more or less indicated that safety is inversely proportional to freedom. Not sure if this fits into the discussion, if nor sorry.

    Kahr CW9 9mm vs. S&W Airweight J-frame .38

I find that the Airweight has a minimal print. As I'm built along the lines of a toothpick I find this nice.

    Any1 own a para hi-capacity .45?

I had the 14.45 LDA and never had a problem with it. It fed everything reliably. It is a bit heavy fully loaded with 14 +1 capacity. The thing is... I could not get used to the hammer moving on a 1911 platform. I eventually sold it for far too little.

When is it time to replace parts on my handgun?

I had to replace the ejector at about 9K rounds and the extractor had worn at about 12K. The spring gets replace yearly, but I shoot a lot. I rebuild the mags yearly as they seem to wear faster than anything else.

    Tell me about your...

I currently have a XD-40 Tactical and an XD-40 sub compact. I had an SA-2000 I bought new and wore it out; that was the original Croatian import. Great service through SA, as they gave me full credit for an XD once I wore out the SA-2000. My only issue is the trigger, but that will ease up...

CCW Discussion for the Skinny Guys

I typically carry an airweight ( I know, not an autoloader) IWB at 12 o'clock. I'm 5'7" at about 140 lbs. A medium size shirt untucked is baggy enough so it doesn't show in the least. The down side is dropping it in the toilet, plus it's, er, pointed in a scary direction. Thinking about a...

    Critique my survival kit

Lithium batteries for your electronics (they have a longer shelf life) and multiple compasses. I had a bad compass once and a most unpleasant day. Kept thinking, "am I crazy?" all day out in the Adirondacks. Eventually found a road, but the change in latitude made my sightings unreliable through...

    Lets talk about med kits

You might want to look into the "good Samaritan" laws in your area as well. If you break ribs doing a heart massage (as you may well) you want to be sure you are not liable. Sucks to be an EMT sometimes... Do not administer any painkillers if you can help it, might not be able to tell the...

Hi Cap Para ordinance or EAA Witness match?

My only issue with the P14-45 I carried was the LDA trigger. I found the moving hammer on a 1911 pattern gun very distracting. I'd advise you to shoot one and see if it bothers you first.

Tell Me About The Bloopers You Had While Carrying

I tend to keep my S&W airweight clipped in the center front of my pants with this spring steel clip that screws on under the grips. It keeps the butt of the gun behind my belt buckle. I"ll slide it out of the way while going to the restroom. this worked for years until the clip started to loosen...

    Some XD Questions

I might need to spend some money my own self. I've been thinking of adding a xd45 to the lineup and might as well get it done before I grow too attached to send it away. Thanks from me as well.

    Kill = Crunch

Unless you buy into the whole "it just went off" scare tactics. Never seen one just go off by its lonesome. Have seen one decocker malf on an early model s&w auto once. Tried to get Smith to pay for the cleaning of my drawers.... didn't work.

Any reviews on the XD series sub compact

I'm very fond of my sub-compact in 40 s&w but I do find it a little bit "chunky". I use it as a cold weather carry only due to it having a more noticable "print" than my little airweight. It is utterly reliable and with the addition of some night sights a very nice pistol. As noted in another...

    Some XD Questions

Seems the most cost effective way to fix an XD trigger is to just shoot it. Sounds like an excuse to go burn off a few more boxes of reloads....

    Some XD Questions

I own a XD40 tactical and a sub compact in 40 as well and have been happy with the stock trigger. What exactly do you wish to change about it? You can have a simple polish job if it feels gritty, as mine did the first 500 rounds or so. I did need to do some maintenance on the internals after...
