I think that I may have finally figured out what I am doing wrong.

Read your post about keeping the flash 45 to the side...good, but try diffusing it, too. Your shadows are hard-edged, which tells me you're probably using undiffused light. If you don't have softboxes, try taping some tracing paper to the front of your lights. Or cut the bottoms out of a...

I think that I may have finally figured out what I am doing wrong.

Oh...and to soften the light from the clamp lights, I'd tape some tracing paper over the fronts (be careful not to run your lights too long this way or POOF!). These are the lights I mean: http://tinyurl.com/2bctfyt

I think that I may have finally figured out what I am doing wrong.

Your biggest problem isn't your aperture setting, though that will certainly affect the amount of light reaching the sensor. Assuming you know how to manipulate your settings to achieve the exposure you're looking for, you'll get far better lighting if you stop using your camera's built-in...

    10,000 rds .50 BMG stolen---needs help---

Believe it or not, some parts of Alabama are home to large numbers of Mexican drug cartel operations. I'm guessing this was more than a couple good ol' boys looking for range ammo. Why not take the guns? Dunno. Portability maybe?

Have never sold/shipped ammo: how does UPS work?

You can call them for a pickup I shipped a bunch of ammo this past summer through UPS. The above poster is correct--your label (I made them on my computer) needs to say "ORM-D" and "Cartridges, Small Arms" inside a black box. Affix it to the front of the package and you're good to go. I went...

    emergency food bars

Clif bars have a much shorter expiration--I think 6 months. Maybe a tad longer, but not much. Last year I replaced all the Clifs in my BOB with Mainstay bars and New Millenium bars, both of which have a 5-year shelf life.

    Shipping loaded ammo info needed

UPS is the way to go I just shipped a bunch of boxes of ammo to various parts of the country within the last few weeks. UPS is the best way to go, hands down. As others have posted, you need to have ORM-D in a rectangle, along with the words Cartridges, Small Arms on the outside of the box. I...

New AZ law concerning/clarifying "brandishing" a firearm...

I always thought this logic was ridiculous, and could probably be easily defended by the following statement: "I drew my firearm because, yes, at that moment I was absolutely certain I was about to be violently attacked and was in fear for my life. But once the guy saw I was able to defend...

    Journalist's Firearms Identification Guide

You forgot the words "cop-killer" or "high-powered" before each of those descriptions.

"I don't like Hoppes #9" and other unpopular cleaning opinions.

Hoppe's #9 is...Heaven in a jar, my friend. :) Sorry you don't dig the smell. If I had a personal tagline it'd be something like "Cleaning my guns with Hoppe's #9 since 1975."

    Refinishing my M1 Garand

"I scrubbed off 66 years of oil, dirt and grime." That happens to be one of my favorite things about my Garand. :) Scrubbing that clean would be like erasing all the adjectives from your favorite book.

Garand: One last time, I promise

Quoheleth, you will absolutely cherish your Garand more, and for longer, than all those other things you mentioned COMBINED. You'll forget all about about the extra couple hundred you spent the moment you pull the trigger on that first shot. By the time you hear that first clip PING!, you'll...

I want to support my local shop but......

Always ask if he can compromise I've always found my local guy to be pretty accommodating when I ask him like this: "I'd really rather buy this gun from you. I know its hard competing with Internet pricing, but I found the exact same model online for $200 less than you're asking. Now, I want...

I am stumped and need advice

Not that I'd recommend a BSA scope, but you also mentioned that you keep the thing on your dashboard, and I see that you live in Florida. Heat, direct sunlight and plastic...not a great combination for keeping optics in good working condition. Whatever scope you end up with, I'd suggest...

New poll on Natl Parks Carry

My favorite quote... There's an article about the new ruling on MSNBC. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30832809/ My favorite quote: "Families should not have to stare down loaded AK-47s on nature hikes," said Brady campaign president Paul Helmke. What a complete idiot. Is there really...

    Is Souter retiring?

Ah, ok...WHEW! Not that we're not always going to have to be vigilant, but knowing he was a dissenter makes it easier to bear. Thanks for the info. I never was all that detailed about politics.

    Is Souter retiring?

You beat me to it Just read the same article. My exact inner dialogue: "Here we go. This is gonna be the beginning of the next round. He'll appoint an an anti, and the next time the 2A comes up for review, they'll lean 5-4 the other way." Brace yourselves, folks. Hope I'm wrong.

Buying a Garand as a shooter: good investment?

Get one now I bought my first Garand last year, and fell instantly head over heels in love. In the warmer months, I shoot her every few weeks. Her booming report and the ping of that clip hitting concrete are my serenade. In the winter months, I take her out every so often to caress her smooth...
