Reducing/Improving the trigger on a Ruger #1; what is your experience?

This post is a bit dated, but just to share my experience with the Ruger #1 rifle, I’ll proceed. I became totally enamored with the Ruger single shot with my first purchase in .222 Rem. The wood was above average, with the Alexander Henry fore end and the barrel band mounted sling swivel. That...

Highway Patrolman - bad charge hole ---

This post is somewhat dated (old) but I was wondering about the progress to date. I hope events have turned out well in your favor. Was any attempt made to determine the cause of the bulged chamber; an overcharge or an obstructed barrel? You may want to “slug” the bore with the idea of...

    Acronyms on Gunbroker?

I think they fired it at the factory 2 or 3 times; no getting around that. I'm happy with Mint. The Pony Express arrived today and GunBroker is saying that "MIB" is a typo for NIB. Funny how MIB is the only typo on the page, in multiple instances. I'll go with "Mint". Thanks guys for your help. kerf

    Acronyms on Gunbroker?

Mint!! Why couldn't I think of that? It was so obvious! I've been emailing back and forth with Gunbroker regarding this; most of their emails arrive by Pony Express. Thanks everyone. Now I can sleep at night. I actually purchased a gun described as such and intended to ask the seller what MIB...

    Academy, Good store or not?

As others have said; Academy is a middle of the road big box sporting goods store. I was glad to see them come to town. If you need something generic, they're your store. Funny story about Academy: I ordered a reloading scale online and it was shipped from Texas; I returned it locally in...

    Acronyms on Gunbroker?

While perusing on Gunbroker, I keep seeing the acronym "MIB" used in the description header. I have no idea what "MIB" describes. Here's an example: MIB 1972 S&W 10-4 4" HEAVY BARREL .38 SPECIAL.... I understand that NIB stands for New In Box. I can't believe that it's just a typo; there are...

    Make & Model?

LoonWulf: Don’t blame me; I didn’t do it! I think you were predisposed. Now that I can put a name to the gun (thanks again) I’ll be looking for other examples. I saw a couple of 30-06s, a 300 Savage and a 32-20 maybe; but I think I’ll hold out for the 30-30. There’s just something about a...

    Make & Model?

Thanks alot, everyone! Now at least I know what I'm looking for. I think that gun in the picture went for three or four hundred. I might be wrong on that. And, I might add, I really like the new software for posting pics. kerf

    Make & Model?

I've been trying to locate one of these (see picture) but I can't remember the make or model of the rifle. I believe it's chambered for the Win 30-30 cartridge; and, it's obviously a vintage rifle from a second tier manufacturer. I'm thinking, guessing really, Mossberg, Ithaca, Stevens, etc...

    Very casual pistol sale

It has always been my understanding that 5 sales is the limit per 12 month calendar; and, that understanding goes back probably 40yrs. Cross that threshold and you're courtin' the wrath of the BATF. They are not fun to play with. I don't usually sell guns, but when I do, I always make clear...

How long can a snubnose be?

S&W Model 28 sent back for repair

Side plate logo... My 28-2 has the S&W circular logo on the right side plate. I thought they all did. What do I know? kerf

Rarity and value of a Model 34-1 square but circa 1981

1.) As I remember 1981 was not a good era for S&W; back then, everyone was longing for quality products of the Sixties. During the eighties they did away with the pinned barrel and the recessed cylinder, (a catastrophic event) amongst other cost saving short cuts. 2.) I think it can be...

    Broke hand primer?

follow up... This is the stuff I actually used to repair my priming tool. As stated, it's a thick paste and adheres well. It's been off the market for many years due to some corporate maneuvering; glad to see it's back. Very useful for other things than golf shafts and I was down to my last...

    Broke hand primer?

I had the same breakage years ago and was able to make a permanent repair using golf shaft epoxy to mend the parts back together. It's the glue they use to hold the head on a golf shaft, which is described as high impact bonding. It's very good on metal to metal, or metal to wood bonding. (Think...

    Drilling hole in RCBS press?

I drilled my press... So, I drilled the 3/8” hole I wanted without any problem. It took awhile, but went easily without incident. I think the neat way to go about collecting spent primers is a clear plastic tube connected to a bottle for easy disposal. The primer catcher that’s supplied with...

    Drilling hole in RCBS press?

Drilling cast iron DRY is another good tip to keep in mind. Otherwise, the shavings mix with the oil and form a barrier that prevents the drill bit from cutting at full efficiency. thanks all, kerf

    Drilling hole in RCBS press?

Grinding the surface, breaking the surface, was the part I was trying to "remember". Thanks, that should work. I reversed the ram on my press so that the slot for the primers is to the rear. I had a piece of wood to divert the spent primers to a cigar box. Having to relocate the press, I want...

    Drilling hole in RCBS press?

Has anyone drilled a hole in the base of their RCBS press? I'd like to provide a direct escape route for decapping primers. What I'm not certain of, is the type of cast iron used for the press. Some cast iron drills easily and other types just eat bits. Any experience or suggestions? thanks...
