Hopkins and Allen 12 Ga. Double SxS Hammer Gun - Model?

I think we can assume that Malone is a Davenport design. Below are some pictures of a Davenport Double Hammer Gun with the same characteristics as mine. Agree?

Hopkins and Allen 12 Ga. Double SxS Hammer Gun - Model?

100 plus year old corporate research is frustrating at best. I now have the Carder book on H&A tip up shotguns but really don't have any additional information. The carder book describes all of the H&A Double hammer guns as having a dolls head rib extension and even provided a detailed...

Shipment of ANTIQUE (pre 1899) production revolver from New Jersey to Pennsylvania

In construction the saying is RTFC. Or Read the Flippin Contract. And of course you’re right. I’ll read through 432 tonight. Not sure I have it in me to read the whole statute and regulations associated with this though. I don’t ship guns modern or antique.

New Blue Python - GOT ONE

According to Colt’s website they are carbon steel with a blued finish. https://www.colt.com/detail-page/blued-python/?attribute_pa_variant=blued-python-4

Shipment of ANTIQUE (pre 1899) production revolver from New Jersey to Pennsylvania

Just to be clear, I’m not suggesting the above question would apply in New Jersey. NJ being an animal unto its own.

Shipment of ANTIQUE (pre 1899) production revolver from New Jersey to Pennsylvania

Strange how laws/rules are written. One has to read the entire paragraph to understand what that paragraph says. From one of the responses. As I read the entire paragraph below an antique can be mailed if it doesn’t use fixed ammunition unless it has a frame or receiver. The conversion issue...

Hopkins and Allen 12 Ga. Double SxS Hammer Gun - Model?

Still trying to pick the fly poop from the pepper. But I found the below quote on the Long Island Firearms forum while continuing my search for more information on the side lock shotguns. Now how accurate the gun blue book was/is might be questioned. But if correct that would put the manufacture...

Hopkins and Allen Hammer Double - Firing Pin Screw Removal

This is probably the sagest advice. I won’t do anything unless I have to except keep trying to unscrew/swage the peened part over time. But it will bother me the whole time. Not sure it makes a difference what the screw looks like, but here is the Numrich picture of what a 110 year old firing...

Hopkins and Allen Hammer Double - Firing Pin Screw Removal

If I had the right equipment and skills. But I know people who do.

Hopkins and Allen Hammer Double - Firing Pin Screw Removal

The retainer screw is completely hidden. The only part that can be seen or accessed is the slotted head.

Hopkins & Allen Sidelock Hammer Double - Introduction and Range Report

It's been a while since I've posted in the shotgun forum. I've posted about this shotgun in both the Firearms Research forum and the Gunsmithing forum. It's a H&A Sidelock Hammer Double model built on the Davenport design. 4th model. It is a boxlock frame with sideplates. Davenport was bought...

Hopkins and Allen Hammer Double - Firing Pin Screw Removal

I posted about this shotgun in the Firearms Research forum to get some history. I'll post a range report in the shotgun forum. But I have a non-urgent repair issue. This is a sidelock exposed hammer shotgun that uses a firing pin retaining screw to hold the firing pin in place in lieu of a...

Hopkins and Allen 12 Ga. Double SxS Hammer Gun - Model?

My shotgun terminology leaves a lot to be desired. According to some information gathered on Shotgun World Forum, I have a H&A model built on the Davenport design. 4th model. So you were right, it is a boxlock frame, just with sideplates. Davenport was bought by H&A in 1901 but continued to...

Hopkins and Allen XL8 - Is this a fatal Crack?

It's at the gunsmith for evaluation, welding if doable. He's also going to remove 2 screws that I can't. Both on the ejector assembly.

Hopkins and Allen XL 8 Takedown and Parts

I'm really not sure how much they cost in comparison to a Colt or S&W. In the Forgotten Weapons video on the revolver Ian states that the cost was a factor in the failure of the revolver. He indicated that the decision the public had to make was to pay the same kind of money for a H&A or buy a...

Hopkins and Allen XL 8 Takedown and Parts

I’ve now taken apart/reassembled several times. The cylinder stop/bolt doesn’t care when it installed. But I find it easier to install the hammer before the trigger. It seems to take less fiddling to get things engaged properly with the hammer installed.

Hopkins and Allen XL8 - Is this a fatal Crack?

I’m bringing this one to my gunsmith who may be able to weld it. He might have to send it out though. We will see.

Hopkins and Allen 12 Ga. Double SxS Hammer Gun - Model?

I didn’t realize this was going to be hard to find. Wonder if this would have been better posted in the shotgun forum. I hate the idea of joining another forum just to ask a single question. But there were some people on one of the shotgun forums that appeared to have some knowledge of the H&A...

Hopkins and Allen 12 Ga. Double SxS Hammer Gun - Model?

The best description I can find on the internet is this post on the shotgun forum. https://www.shotgunworld.com/threads/hopkins-allen-side-by-side-12ga-1902-1914.196769/ It describes the Old Model sidelock in a paragraph speaking to the 1902 Forehand models sold by Hopkins and Allen. But I...

Hopkins and Allen 12 Ga. Double SxS Hammer Gun - Model?

Nope. I took the side locks off and cleaned/lubed the inside. Definitely a sidelock. Loosen the one screw and use it to push out the other sideplate and then use thensame screw (or an appropriately sized punch to push the screw side sideplate. I've taken a Lefever Nitro Special apart (not a...
