    Winchester Model 70 stock question

Sell a gun?!? That's crazy talk! ;) Especially when it comes to one of my Winchesters! This is one of those cases where it isn't so much about the value of the gun when I'm done with it. Well, the value to me doesn't have a dollar amount anyway. I would keep it the way it was if I...

    Winchester Model 70 stock question

Ok, thanks. Yeah, I was a bit surprised at how much new bottom metal costs! But, I don't really have a choice. They rifle doesn't have any now, it's a blind mag, so I'll have to buy something to convert it. That might be something to find later on ebay or gunbroker.

    Winchester Model 70 stock question

I guess the one thing I haven't been able to verify yet is that the only difference in the stocks for 2002 or later is that they are inletted for the one piece bottom metal. Can anyone speak to that? If that is the case, then it would seem that I could buy the post 2002 stock, a one piece...

    Winchester Model 70 stock question

I have a Model 70 that I dropped a few years back and cracked the stock. I slipped on some wet rocks while hunting. I was so mad! Anyway, I glued and pinned it and it works fine, but I've always wanted to replace the stock with something nicer. The rifle in question is a late 70's/early 80's pre...

    Chrome MAS 36

This is a gun that a friend of mine dug out of his father's closet. Can anything be found out about it based on the serial number? Why on earth would someone chrome plate a MAS 36? Might this be some kind of presentation or ceremonial piece? He wants to shoot it, so I'm trying to get it...

What happened to this 300Win Mag Brass??

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm pretty sure the whole thing was caused be me excessively resizing the brass. Yes, I am full length sizing these. I shot this same load a week ago and had none of these problems. My plan is to first cull all of my old brass. I have a bunch from when I was...

What happened to this 300Win Mag Brass??

Yes, the chamber was dry and clean. It's not a fluted chamer. The rifle is a new Winchester M70. This only happened to two pieces of brass, out of the 10 shots I took today before I came home to pull the rest of my loads. Also I would think if the brass looked likethat prior to firing, then it...

What happened to this 300Win Mag Brass??

Remington Brass. I'm not 100% sure of the age, but I think this was only the 3rd loading.

What happened to this 300Win Mag Brass??

The two pieces of brass in the picture are from a 300 Win Mag load I shot today: 165gr Nosler Accubond, 78.5gr IMR 7828, Winchester LRM primer, LOA 3.39. This should be a mid-range load according to my Nosler book. Although, the book claimed this would go about 3110 FPS, and my Chrony clocked it...

.22 squirrel hunting near Austin or Georgetown?

No problem! I hope you enjoy your time out there. I hunted it for a few seasons before I (finally) got on a lease, so if you have any other questions give me a shout.

.22 squirrel hunting near Austin or Georgetown?

Have a look at TPWD public hunting area 607 in Robertson County. It is south east of Waco. There are plenty of squirrels there as well as pigs, and now that deer seson is over it won't be crowded. You can use a rifle there.

How should I treat this damage?

Thanks for all of the replies. Greg - I had actually thought about trying to move some of the metal back in there, but before I saw your post I wasn't sure that was such a good idea. Thanks for the diagram. For now my plan is to try to clean it up the best I can, and if that doesn't work...

How should I treat this damage?

I'm sooo PI$$ED! I slipped and fell on some wet rocks and and my nearly 20 year old Winchester M70 suffered some sustantial damage. This rifle is like an old friend and I've always taken good care of it, and now it has a cracked stock and some nasty damage to the end of the barrel. I'm...

Anyone here use a Simmons Aetec scope?

I have an Aetec 2.8-10x on my AR-10 and have been very happy with it. It has spent quite a bit of time in the field and a lot of time on the range, with a total of about 1000 rounds shot. I got the scope dialed in the first day and haven't touched it since.

Is there ANY public place in Texas to shoot for free?

I think thast red dot above Austin is Ft Hood. I don't think you want to try any target practice there, lol. There is some National Forest land in east TX where you can shoot. I have done some shooting on a few occasions in the Davy Crocket forest. If you get an Annual Public Hunting permit, it...

    AR 10 loads

Ok, that makes more sense. You might keep working up to the max with the 4895. That is where I found my sweet spot. I also worked a little bit with 4064 but gave up on it when I found the 4895 load that works so well.

    AR 10 loads

Why such a low load? My Sierra book starts at 39gr 4895. I'd say keep working that load up! My 20" loves the 165gr Sierra Gameking with 42gr 4895 (book max is 42.4 or 42.1 for the 167gr Matchking).

Bullet choice for elk with 300 mag

When I was working on my 300 mag load I was also worried about the bullet moving under recoil, so I decided to use the Lee factory crimp die to get a good hold on bullets without a crimp groove. I have been very happy with the results. I now use that on several of my rifle calibers, including...

Looking for the best bullet for a .25-06? Deer

I've been using the Sierra 120gr HPBT for years. It has accounted for several Texas white tails, a Montana mulie doe, a coyote, and a turkey; all one shot stops. It is very accurate in my Winchester with a good dose of 4350. Actually, I'm a bit surprised at the number of folks in this thread...

"Do you have firearms in the vehicle?"

You guys need to think more like politicians. Don't "lie", but you don't really have to answer his question exactly. Somthing like: Cop: "Do you have any guns in the car?" Me: "I have nothing illegal in the car, sir." By talking around the question, you have stuck to your "platform"...
