How many rounds before cleaning your AR?

briansmithwins I'm usually on the briansmith bandwagon, but just for giggles, I made 3 range trips and fired about 500 rounds of Wolf 7.62x39 from my AR before cleaning, just to see if the world would come to an end. It didn't, but I felt guilty for not cleaning in over a month, so I...

    Why not the Tokarev?

I have a ttc that I like mucho. I did use it for my first carry pistol while hunting for a couple years. Can't say it was 100%, but it was when I was using commercial ammo. I have replaced it with more modern pistols, but I still take it out to range to scare tin cans. I've seen parts...

    8mm Mauser suggestions

I went through an 8mm Mauser period. Lot's of good memories. I had a Spanish M43 that I liked. It's basically a K98 w/out the ??s of wartime production. I had a Russian Capture K98 that I liked also. Both were very well balanced and surprisingly accurate. 1950's 8mm brass surplus from...

My brother needs advice: best 9mm brands $300-450(ish)?

If your brother has small hands A used Sig P6/225 should fit the bill. I got mine for 325. Works great.

    Snowshoe recommendation, please!

I have a pair of redfeathers that I love, but they are very light and maneuverable. My wife has a pair of wider/heavier backcountry snowshoes that she used for backcountry winter backpacking. I can't remember the manufacturer. Those have a wide base and would make better platform for pulling...

    Good Semi for Small Hands

I had an XDM that I dearly loved for it's reliability, accuracy, etc, but was a hair too large for me, even with the smallest back strap. I've always loved the feel of my "starter gun" Tokarev T33, so I've been exploring the single-stack world: Makarov, P6, Cz100. I have to admit that...

$650, what scope would you get for hunting big game?

Cheap-guy advice I use a Burris Fullfield II. Love it to death. Save the extra money for a trip to where the big game live. I don't own a 416 Rigby, though, so ymmv

    Should I feel guilty?

Normally, my answer would be "if you have to ask..." But guns are tools. You can enjoy your time with them, but they're still tools. You wouldn't keep around a drill that drove you batty; you'd go to the local hardware store and pick up a better one with more torque/longer battery...

    30-06 or 270

I have two 30-06. If I had gone down the 270 Win route I would be equally as happy. Both are very effective over normal hunting distances. Find a rifle in either category that fits you well and you're good to go. .270s might be a hair lighter in the general realm of things.

The "dumbing down of America" - shooting uphill or downhill.

So if you were a full-time sniper, then you would probably be able to do the math in your head AND have your observer double-check your math. You probably would have lots of practice as your position might often be on the high ground. In my life, I draw the line at 3 digits of long...

    Stoeger Cougar

You got OTD BEFORE taxes? You're my hero, Ferris! You might also try your LGS. I saw one at a shop in Kirkland, WA for a very reasonable price, and the owner let me paw it for some time even though I told him I was out of state and wouldn't be purchasing.
