Its worth the discounts you get from brownells or Midwayusa. you will pay for the C&R with your first parts order from either. Think of it as a discount card.
What if SIG or FN decides to stop selling to the public? Where are you going to get your parts? With the ar-15 you don’t have the problem of a single source manufacturer. It won’t be a problem if the SIG and FN stay on the market for a long enough time to develop a supply of aftermarket...
I did not vote for either. Get another ar-15. You wont have any problems getting replement parts like barrels. Plus you can spend the cost difference on ammo.
Tony Rumore (Tromix Corp) did make some before he quit the gunsmithing business. the barrel lenght was around 12" I do belive he did have to open up the gas ports. The bad thing about the gun is you can't find any mags for sale.
Try this thread at Falfiles. It will show and explain the differnce between all the differnt types.

What semi-auto civlian rifles use an can use a M16 mag? Here are the ones I can think of :
Kel-tec SU-16
Ar-15 clones
Armalite AR-180
Springfield Armory SAR4800
Bushmaster M17 bullpup
FN2000
Robinson Armament M96
What else uses a M16 Mag?
Have you looked in the a dc indrustries reciver? You can get those in a TYPE I. Plus they are 100 bucks cheaper. You should really ask this question on falfiles.com to get the best answer.
only the last four on the list should be considered for a battle rifle. The others are too small a caliber or unproven in battle. Why not a M1 Garand? You could get one cheap from the CMP. Then rebarrel it for the cheaper 308.
I had a Sar-1. Did not like the accuracy. I was getting huge dinner plate groups at 50 yards. Sold the Sar-1 and got a Yugo SKS. I am much more accurate with the SKS than I was with the SAR. I belive it has to do with the differing weights of the guns. YMMV.
Your not a dealer when you have a C&R licence. You don't have to deal with any zoning regs or sales tax reporting. You also cannot use the licence to deal (make a profit). ATF inspections also do not have to occure at the address of the licence. You can bring your bound book to them for an...
I believe a Yugo M59 SKS is legal in California. The M59/66 version is not due to the grenade launcher. You might have a hard time finding a M59 version though.
