I suppose that it depends on how you define "normal." Open carry is relatively uncommon, even in the states where it is most accepted. North Carolina is an open carry state, but I rarely see it. It would not likely cause people to freak out though...not even in Charlotte.
Doc...like I said on the other forum (Prosecutor here)...more pics please.:D
I like what you did with your carry piece. Do you bead blast yourself? I saw a bead blast box at Harbor Freight and may have a reason to buy it now.
How accurate is accurate enough? Well, for me...most well made handguns exceed my capability. This is really more an academic question...as you pointed out.
Of course, this hasn't stopped hundreds of people from posting threads about which highly tuned 1911 shoots the best 1/2 centimeter...
While reading a thread about custom 1911s being more accurate than "off the rack" 1911s because of tight tolerances and all of that stuff, I got to wondering whether the revolver platform might lend itself to greater accuracy than the 1911 because of the fixed barrel? Of course, there are a few...
UPDATE:
This mystery may be solved by pure luck. This afternoon I contacted a guy about purchasing a Smith & Wesson Model 42 snub and he mentioned that it had previously been seized by police, held in evidence, and later sold at auction. I told him about this 1969 agent. It turns out that he...
Thanks Steve. I think that I will check back with the shop. I stop by every now and then when I pass through mid-NC.
I am an attorney in North Carolina...so I will have no trouble checking court records when I get things narrowed down. You are right about NC open records.
I purchased this 1969 Agent from a Pawn / Gun store in Robbins, North Carolina several months ago. It has what appears to be a case number or evidence number and initials carved into the top strap.
I occasionally carry this revolver and wonder about its history. A factory letter will tell me...
Gordon - I tend to agree. I purchased the New Agent because I liked the look, but the trench sight has not grown on me. I almost never carry the gun. The snubby has been in my pocket a time or two since I bought it last Friday.
JWF III, you are not the only one. I was just going to post the same thing. I like honest wear on a well cared for blued revolver.
It's OK for an old gun to have some obvious history. I think it is sort of sad when they don't have any marks...it's like somebody just left it in a drawer.
I dropped my 442 in the garage...it hit the side of my Corvette on the way down. The car and the revolver lost some paint that day.
Don't worry about the scuff marks on your 642. When I look at my 442 with its scratches, heavy holster wear, etc...it just reminds me that it's been a good gun...
I had court in Raleigh on Friday morning (as a lawyer, not a defendant :)) but nothing in the afternoon...so I identified several gun shops / pawn shops to check out on my way back to Charlotte. I was hoping to find some older Smith & Wesson or Colt snubbies. Well, I found this 1969 Colt Agent...
A few weeks ago I posted pics of this 1973 Colt Cobra that I purchased on Gunbroker. It was modified to facilitate pocket carry, bobbed hammer, shortened grips, and a white sight insert that I could do without.
I took it to the range and found the grip to be horrible. Like most of my other...
H20 MAN,
This photo you posted is of Mike Monsoor, recent posthumous Medal of Honor winner. You may have known that, but I wanted to share the story with everyone. This Navy SEAL intentionally threw himself on a grenade to save his fellow operators. He was the only one positioned to escape...
DaveinPA,
I struggled with it for a day or so myself...but decided to hit the "buy it now." I wanted to pick it up over the weekend and the seller was able to meet me for a face-to-face transfer. The only thing it needs is a Tyler T-Grip.
Those are Eagle Grips. It is the "Eagle Secret Service." I expected them to be a bit shorter...but they are made very well.

Gordon,
My thoughts exactly. I didn't need another Cobra (not that need as anything to do with it) but this one was made for me. I couldn't pass it up. I hit the "buy it now" button on Gunbroker so I didn't lose it.
