One of the guys asked me to post this shot of the outrageously over-sized parts they were required to fit in class.
Actually, I made up several of these larger-than-life models so everyone could easily see the areas to be fit and/or adjusted. The double ended extractor is a new super...
I just finished one of the longest weeks of my life. Seven would-be pistolsmiths pushed aside their lives and journeyed to Arkansas for a five, (later changed to six) day class on building their very own 1911 pistols.
Lesson plans were written, workbenches built, vises and lights installed...
It's about to happen to you again.
Best bet? Buy a Springfield GI and learn your way around the gun. Shoot it until you know what you need to do (if anything) to make it perfect for YOU.
Believe me, you'll save frustration and money in the long run.:banghead:
Josh,
As of a couple of weeks ago, King's had WIDE paddle ambis in stock. I don't think they show up on their "in stock" list, but if you press and they check with the shop, I think you can get one.
That configuration will allow you to shape the left-side paddle as desired. The right side...
Here's a little easier way for you to see the formula. Note that the SIGHT RADIUS is used as a value, not the barrel length.
The formula:
SR (sight radius)= distance between aiming surfaces of front and rear sight in inches.
D = Differences in point of aim to point of impact...
Darn, you've let the cat out of the bag. Yep, that's exactly why we do it. And that "fancy fee" we charge? Well that goes toward the next payment on the Lexus.
:scrutiny:
Just completed and ready for a new life in Florida, this one’s destined for a whole bunch of holster time and a high round count. The finish is satin matte stainless, 100/170 glassbeads. The perfect 25 LPI checkering front and rear is by Pete Single. The carry bevel on this pistol is fairly...
'Course you could always try tapping them out on the previous owner's head.:what:
Agree. Looks like a good place to try out your filing skills. We routinely bevel those edges anyway. Finish up with 320 grit paper.
Beautiful leather. Sharkskin wears like iron! While guiding in the Keys, I handled a whole bunch of sharkskin...in the untanned state. It's just as tough while it's still on the critter. ;)
Glad to see you posted some shots of that new knife BEFORE it got the Rogers treatment. Nice job!!
Jess,
Throw in more and softer light and post us some close-ups!
What kinda pull weight did you get from using that heavy steel trigger?
I find that even when using solid aluminum triggers that I have to internally lighten them to get a usable pull without bounce.:banghead:
Gary,
Glenrock Blue in Glenrock, Wyoming, does incredible work. No plum coloration on ANY of the parts. Turn-around is very reasonable. Here's a pic of a Baer Monolith I reworked for a customer and sent to Phil at Glenrock.
Profit?
Good grief!!!
If that's the criteria, neither one of us has a prayer.:banghead:
Great work, as usual. The beavertail fitting on these alone is worthy of a seminar.
:)
