as mentioned above, the CZ is more of a combat gun and the Cougar is more of a HD gun. I have shot with both and like them equally, though have found that the CZ (regular not compact) is a bit more accurate. However, the manual decocking and the more complex breakdown process was not my cup of...
the decocker has a physical ridge that blocks the hammer from reaching the pin, and is quite safe. you should have it checked out by a competent gunsmith before you use it for CC BTW, but it is a very safe weapon to use.
just make sure that you keep the firing pin and channel clean and grease...
yes, strange indeed. make sure that you clean it and lube it, especially the contact point of the rotating barrel and the stud. I've found that the Cougar likes to be run a bit "wet". Mine has over 800 rounds of ammo through it with no problems.
check them carefully against the 15 rounders. some manufacturers also add "folds" inside the magazine walls that prevent you from doing just that (swapping springs and followers)
Its a great weapon. The grip angle is wonderful and for my larger hands the thickness of the butt is perfect. It just feels right and points very well. The rotating barrel controls recoil very well and there is little muzzle flip. The only issue is a lack of aftermarket accessories like...
just be careful dry firing the weapon, their firing pins are brittle. I had a BM that ended up with a broken firing pin as a result of lots of practice!!!
Another vote for the Cougar. Its a very reliable, safe and modern pistol. The DA/SA with safety/decocker is very good for a HD gun and you can leave the weapon in DA with the safety on. Its also quite compact and has a short barrel.
The CZ is a great gun, but it does not have a decock...
Corner Pocket:
I have found that the best way to re assemble is to hold the slide upside down in your left hand. Place the barrel and the block/spring assembly over it in the correct manner (it only fits one way). Then keeping it all upside down, carefully slide the frame into the rails...
Yes the Cougar needs a drop or two of oil and likes to be run a bit wetter than other autos. Use the regular amount of oil on the rails and the mechanism, and make sure that the rotating block has some lube on it as well. Some people advocate the use of grease but I personally think that is not...
another vote for geese...other than small barky dogs you don't get anything better or more alert.
and don't forget a peacock for stealth...my aunt had one that would sneak up on people and attack them!!! really!!!
:)
Another vote for the dachshund breed, though the pedigrees can be nippy. They are super alert and were bred to go into badger holes and get the badgers out so can be very brave and fierce. Their advantage is also that they are small and easy to care for (short hair, eat less, don't mess up...
go with the stoegar. it is incredible value for money and points very well. is very accurate and easy to maintain as well. we have two and have put 500+ rounds through with no issyes at all.
finally if you want to convert the regular one to DAO only its a simple job to do.
outstanding value...we (my dad and i) have matching ones in 9mm and we have put 200-250 rounds through both with no problems at all. the gun is very accurate and at 10yrds hitting a 5x7 sheet is no problem at all even when doing double taps.
only trouble is finding accessories and I wish...
