    Leupold Vari-X still good today?

I found the new model here, it's about $1000 here. We get screwed on goods from the US and I can't easily import a rifle scope to Canada, you need a lot of paperwork and paying duties.

    Leupold Vari-X still good today?

Most gun related stuff seems expensive lately. Just sold a hex reciever mosin for about 500usd. I got it for a fraction of that years ago. Most of the ones I saw were made in China though and I wanted American made. I also had the problem that many newer ones are 30mm tubes but my scope...

    Scope recommendation

Is this for hunting or target shooting ? Big difference. For targets you might want more magnification

    Leupold Vari-X still good today?

I bought a used Leupold Vari-X iii 6.5-20x40 scope that is from 1982. The seller made a mistake on the model of scope and I thought i was buying a VX-iii scope from early 2000's. Is this still considered a quality scope? He told me I could return it if I wanted. I'm in a bit of a quandry, he...

    loads for vintage model 12

i found out someone must have opened up the choke as it measures about .720. so i dont have to worry about shooting slugs. I was surprised as the gun looks original and the barrel is 30" so I doubt its been cut.

Practice 12 gauge 00 buck or slugs

I find boxes of buckshot on sale sometimes just need to keep your eyes open. Remington express 00 buckshot was selling here in boxes of 20 for what birdshot can cost.

    Worn choke

Your right I'll just leave the gun as is, this way I can safely shoot slugs without worry. I just was curious why the choke was opened up but the consensus seems to be someone probably reamed it open at some point

    Worn choke

Well it measures exactly 30" so I assumed it wasn't but I could be wrong, everything looks unaltered with this gun.

    Worn choke

I recently got a Winchester model 12 made In 1917 with 30" full choke barrel. The barrel has not been cut back. Pattern testing it doesnt seem like full choke and when I measured the choke it's .720 and a dime easily slides in. Is my choke just worn out? My dad has never seen this on a...

    Winchester 97 - Lead Shot?

I agree with a classic gun like that, no need to shoot steel unless you are duck hunting and that gun wouldn't be suitable anyways. You want a good choke and 3" shells with steel.

    Winchester 97 - Lead Shot?

If the barrel has no choke I cant see it being a big issue, the shot is inside a plastic cup to protect the barrel.

    loads for vintage model 12

Where I camp bears are very common which is why I like to keep some slugs on hand. I dont use them much just in case.

    Winchester 97 - Lead Shot?

the issue isn't usually with steel scoring the barrel but with it bulging it. The pressure is higher will steel especially going through the choke because it doesn't compress like lead, eventually you get a bulge in the barrel before the choke.

    loads for vintage model 12

I have a Winchester Model 12 that is made in 1917 with a 30" full choke barrel. I know it's only safe to fire lead shot in it but I was wondering if slugs are safe? I have fired slugs through full choke barrels before without issue but those guns were newer. Someone mentioned that full chokes...

    Norinco 97

That must be a different model then normal. All the norinco 1897 I see here have the short 18.5" barrel. If yours is longer I can see that being full choke.

    Bullet to bore diameter

So this is the loading die I have, is their any way I can expand the case neck to fit .311 bullets? I tried but the case mouth is just far too tight. I also have a similar die for my 303 British rounds if I can use something from that? It seems the case mouth size is set when I hammer it into...

    Bullet to bore diameter

My problem is the loading kit I have neck sizes them to 308 so I can’t fit my 303 British bullets in. Hoping the 308 size ones engage the rifling ok.
