    What Gun = Serial # LEK53XX?

I'm trying to reconcile my firearms records and could use an assist. I'm trying to figure out the manufacturer and model of a firearm with serial number LEK53XX, if possible. Do you recognize the type of firearm that would have had that serial number? Thanks for any assistance.

    trench shotgun

Well, my friend, I don't have any prejudice, not even a little, against Chinese products. In fact, if you were to read posts of mine elsewhere, you'd find that I am a vehement defender of free trade and open minds. You need a thicker skin, perhaps. The fact is that the design of the M12 and...

    trench shotgun

The 1897 design comes from a period when guns were essentially hand-fitted in the Winchester factory. I hate to be the voice of caution, but if you think you can get anything approaching that degree of workmanship, which is required for the gun to run at a level that I'd trust for anything more...

Does FN SLP have Browning Speed Loading, or not?

As you say, nearly all shotguns and shotgunners seem to be fine without it. :) The SLP is a very good shotgun, either way. The ads should definitely be pulled, however.

    '58 Remingtons

Maybe cost, just as shotgun trigger guard/trigger plate assemblies are sometimes made of plastic today, and rifle trigger guards are sometimes made of aluminum?

If Gunny saw you putting your rifle in the oven, you'd be next, and the heat would be turned up a lot higher. :D

    sticky python

I'll note that the only gun I've ever had seize up in 45 years of gun ownership was a Python. The oil inside turned to lacquer and locked it up solid. If the Ballistol got it ticking, you're probably fine. I would not say that sending it back to Colt is needed.

    sticky python

If you have a lot of experience dealing with either Swiss mechanical watches ;) or Colt DAs, take it apart, thoroughly clean it and re-lube. If not (and this sounds more like you), remove the grips and thoroughly hose it out with Gunscrubber. Don't use brake cleaner or carb cleaner. You'll...

    12 gauge HD ammo?

00 Fed RR LE buck in the tube, downloaded x1. Win Ranger LE slugs and more of the Fed 00 on the sidesaddle, with the slugs head up to distinguish. Birdshot is a great choice for defense...against birds. Non-lethal does not exist - ask the Boston PD. Less lethal is going to get you into one...

    Winchester Model 12 barrel swap

I went down just about exactly that path once. The odds against it working correctly on a Model 12 are very, very, very low... :( I'm with RC, send it out. Condsider Nu-Line in addition to Simmons.

This is a great and very informative set of posts. The pictures are really excellent. It's a good lesson in making sure work is well done by a smith who has more than shadetree training. Thanks, Kirby.
