Help with an ID on a Francotte

Hmm, I wonder if the barrels started out at 18.2 mm and 18.3 mm and were opened up to 18.3 and 18.4. I found another site with more Belgian proof marks here: http://damascus-barrels.com/Belgian_All_Proofmarks.html

Help with an ID on a Francotte

Thanks for the responses. Just a guess, but I think that we see two proof marks on the barrels because each barrel was proofed separately. The two numbers on each end of each "choke" mark are curious. I wonder if they represent minimum and maximum measurements through the choked section of...

I took pretty pictures! Rem. 870

Nice, Phish! There's something warm and rich about firearms from this era that are well-kept like this.

    Lefever Nitro Special Value

FWIW, a couple of years ago, I paid $400 for a 12 gauge Nitro Special. It functioned perfectly mechanically, but it was about 75% condition cosmetically. Nothing broken, no splits in the wood, but it looked like it had been the go-to gun for at least a few people over the ninety years that it...

Help with an ID on a Francotte

I just bought this shotgun at my favorite local dealer. It was sold to me as a Francotte and I became quite enamored with it when I picked it up and swung it in the store. It was only after I got it home that I decided to do some research. Info on Francotte shotguns is not as easy to come by...

    Over/Under Shotguns?

As others have said, you can find quality firearms at lower prices if you look for good used examples. You may have to forego some modern features, but you may also get better craftsmanship with an older gun. Last year, I bought a 20 ga. Winchester 101 for $800 out the door. Not cheap, but it...

Curio Rifles--Where Does Your HEART Lie?

The term "Curio and Relic" means military firearms to most, it seems. I like the older sporting rifles. I've had my eye on a Remington Model 81 lately...

    Remington 721 (30-06)

I bought one last year that could be a twin to the one you described, except mine did not come with a scope. I paid $275 for mine and have been very happy with it. I noticed that the factory scope mounting holes on mine consisted of a pair on the receiver ring and only one hole on the...

Shooting Bench project for less than $100

Rembrandt - Very cool! The bench looks very sturdy and the design is nice and simple. If I may make a suggestion: A length of Acme threaded all-thread would be just the ticket for the piano-style stool. I have found Acme thread at the local chain hardware store. Thanks!

    You know what i'd buy?

Don't forget about the old Ruger #3. I also think that small falling-block actions make cool rifles. My idea would be to rebarrel a Martini Cadet to 7mm TCU Rimmed. The case for this wildcat would be formed from the brass that Mike Bellm experiments with that is essentially the same...

Rate of fire for bolt action

Another factor... ...to be considered when determining the firing rate of a bolt-action rifle is recoil. When shooting a heavy-recoiling rifle/cartridge combination, it takes longer to recover between shots. Go to this site: http://www.470mbogo.com/RecoilVideo.html and click on the...

    Single Shot Quick Follow-Up Shot

"...but I think a single shot shotgun falls into this discussion too..." You know, this discussion may be especially appropriate for single-shot shotguns because of the higher probability of multiple targets.
