NOT starting another Sig bashing thread....

That's the first I've ever heard of that. I've got a P239 9mm that I carry daily as my off duty weapon. Probably had a few thousand run through it with no damage. Mine is of the Exeter variety. My dad has a German made P226 9mm which God alone knows how many rounds it has eaten. As far as I know...

Just got a M1 carbine, any thoughts?

You did get a good deal. I'm really jealous. I love the M1 and everything derived from it. Congrats on the find.

    Which rifle would you get?

Personally I'd go with the Savage. I'm a HUGE fan of the Mauser bolt. But I love the Accutrigger. I have plans in mind to build a long range rifle starting with a Savage someday when money is not so tight

    Heavy barrel for Ruger Mini-14

No I'm not trying to get fired or imprisoned. The department has been making several policy changes recently and this is one that we are petitioning the chief for. Plus if I get on SWAT on the next tryout then I can have a rifle. I also mentioned that I want to have it for the home; I live in an...

    Heavy barrel for Ruger Mini-14

No way for headshots folded. I was thinking more of keeping if folded while in the car, firing folded if I had to bail quickly or possibly building clearing. I could add rubber pads or change forends. Thanks for the reference. I'll check it out

    Heavy barrel for Ruger Mini-14

Panzercat: I was eyeballing the C and CA models. Kinda torn between the two. How uncomfortable is the C to shoot when folded? That could be a deciding factor. I don't want to sacrifice the mag storage for firing when folded if the firing when folded is impractical. I really want to get my...

    Heavy barrel for Ruger Mini-14

In my department only SWAT members are allowed to have rifles. By policy I can't have one at all in my car. There are a few still trying to get the chief to change that policy. Maybe one day. We just recently were allowed to supply ourselves with department approved shotguns. Still waiting on...

    Heavy barrel for Ruger Mini-14

I love the bolt guns. Plan to build a nice one some day with the Savage. However if some thug rolls out his car with an AK pointing at me from 20 yards or closer (a definite possibility where I work) I don't want to reply in kind with a bolt gun.

    Heavy barrel for Ruger Mini-14

Chindo18Z, I agree completely. But whatever I get I will probably have a zero magnication holographic type optic maybe a 1.5X. I'm much more likely to see closer engagements, car to car or across a front/back yard. Anything 150yards out is pretty unlikely and if I've got that kind of distance...

    Heavy barrel for Ruger Mini-14

I didn't think of it that way. I guess I was thinking 3" radius not diameter. Big difference.

    Heavy barrel for Ruger Mini-14

The only real scenario that I could see it becoming necessary would be a hostage taker or active shooter situation. Our SWAT team would respond however on my department SWAT is not a full time unit that would be on standby so a response time of at least 1.5 hours is expected before SWAT would...

    Heavy barrel for Ruger Mini-14

I am in the VERY early stages of planning to build a patrol rifle/tactical rifle. I love the M1 Garand / M14 action so I considered a Mini-14. However I have read so many people posting that they get 1.5"-3" groups at 100 yards. I could deal with 1.5" but 3" makes me a little nervous. I want...

What is the BEST 22lr Rifle out there?

9mmepiphany makes an excellant point on the costs vs. amount of use. As much as I love my rimfires I never much thought about the number of rounds I put through the rimfires vs. the centerfires.

What is the BEST 22lr Rifle out there?

I have an excellent Anschutz 1415-1416 with which I used to shoot smallbore sillhouette competitions. I have been extremely pleased with it but I don't have any recent targets to give you range specs. Whichever rifle you settle on make sure you try different ammo types. It really can make a...

    Need AR15 Help!

I'll have to inspect my upper when it arrives. Hopefully in a day or so. I bought a YHM flat top upper. If you don't mind I would like to send you a message later when about these things when I actually have my upper in hand.

    Need AR15 Help!

Thank you very much. I have M4 feed ramps and I wanted to get midlength gas system but was unsure if I could get it with a 16" barrel. I am definitely going with the 5.56 chamber (don't think I can afford the Wylde). The grips, lower parts, etc. I pretty well have picked out, but I was unsure...

    Need AR15 Help!

I am building an AR15. Just started really; I have my lower and a flat top upper and that's it so far. I've been shopping around a lot and I know that I want a 16" barrel probably a standard heavy barrel (don't have any burning desire for a M4 contour barrel because I don't forsee the need for...

    Rifle for LE applications

I like the CQB range ballistics of the 7.62x39 but have reservations about the accuracy at longer range. What sort of accuracy have you gotten with your 7.62?

    Rifle for LE applications

I agree that 150 yards is not typically considered sniping. I used "sniping" simply meaning that it would be a longer shot with optics equipped rifle requiring a greater degree of precision. I figure that 150 yards is a realistic distance given the urban environment that I work in, maybe 200 max.

    Rifle for LE applications

I just found an article from Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement on the Stag 6.8. I know you have to take magazine articles with a big grain of salt but the writer seems to think along similar lines as I do. http://www.tactical-life.com/online/full-length-articles/stag-arms-68mm-spc-2/
