several questions about .357 magnum revolvers

RippinSVT thanks for the analogy info. Everyone else has been putting up great information in general but I was still wondering about the question you just answered for me :).

Dumbest thing you've seen at the range?

couple of things I've seen: - friend's SKS jams, he looks into muzzle end without unloading or putting safety on (He's been in AFROTC since but I'm not sure what they're teaching--last time I went hunting for rabbits with him he wanted to take a shot uphill.) - Friendly hick let's us check out...

several questions about .357 magnum revolvers

I'm going to hopefully use this gun for all scenarios: target shooting, hunting/backup, defense (although hopefully just carrying for this one). What is pre-lock?

several questions about .357 magnum revolvers

Thanks for all the great info guys! As far as reloading goes I will be learning how to and I believe I will be inheriting some manuals to go with the equipment. And given my current job/financial situation I think I'll be going with the Ruger GP100.

several questions about .357 magnum revolvers

I am going to be inheriting (i.e. no one in the family wanted these) reloading equipment from my friend's grandfather which will come with a substantial amount of .357 magnum reloading materials. Because of this, I'm putting off my 1911 purchase and I'd like to buy a .357 magnum revolver as my...

    Scope a Mosin Nagant

Mike, where did you find that? I can't seem to find anything like that.

    preparing after a threat

Good point, Duke. Of course, in a year or two I'll have my home defense strategy completely worked out and I would think that eventually the threat level would be close (if not back) to normal and any situation that arises would be taken care of according to a standard home invasion (as much as...

    preparing after a threat

Very good advice. Thanks for all the input guys. Also, what about staying over at a friend's place for a couple weeks? I heard that if threats don't materialize in a couple of weeks then it's safe to assume that nothing will happen, esp. from "gangsta" types.

    preparing after a threat

I've read the posts that describe how to prepare before anything happens, and what should be done during and after. But what if someone threatens to come by to harm you and/or your family? What is the best way to prepare for this kind of scenario? I'm assuming that we don't know whether this...

    visiting California... laws?

Thanks for all the information guys. I will have to go to those resources to find out the particulars for my situation. ---offtopic--- As for the cali vs california debate, all of my friends who live there call it cali so it must be just the company you keep. :)

    visiting California... laws?

My friend and I are planning to backpack through kali in the spring, I was wondering where I could find information on the gun laws there which would pertain to an out-of-stater and also any general info I should know regarding carry laws and possession of other weapons like knives.

Police: 11-Year-Old Robs Walgreens at 'Gunpoint'

My thoughts: Parenting: Don't limit sex-ed to abstinence only, raise awareness of birth control so that these fools don't have kids, raise awareness of lack of usefulness of "timeouts" and other "sensitive" punishments and go back to effective discipline--reward when good, spank when bad. (Of...

U.S. Guns Arm Mexican Drug Cartels

Thousands dead... civilians? gangsters? If civilian casualties are low enough, I say give the gangs all the guns they want and let them cancel each other out. Build a wall to keep the gangsters out of the US, and decriminalize prostitution and drugs to take away the top two income generators...

How would you deal with a mentally ill neighbor?

haven't much to contribute but to those who are just replying without reading the whole thread op said that it was revealed by neighbors wife that the guy is schizophrenic and refuses to take meds.

    Hunter Age Requirements?

I think this is a case where people should be held fully accountable for their actions and we won't need regulations. A 14yrold boy killed a woman, mistaking her for a bear. He was without an adult, but I think the main point is that he didn't follow the rule of POSITIVELY ID YOUR TARGET. At...

    Burglar at night (very long)

545: good story, and have you ever considered the glaser safety slugs for your handgun? It's basically a shot-filled pistol round designed specifically for these kinds of situations.
