Jim Scoutten & Shooting USA "getting closer"

I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets tired of OLN's programming. I love to get up early on Saturday and Sunday, brew my coffee, sit down and turn on OLN. Then, to my dismay there is either some guy fishing in the warm waters of the Keys in Florida, (it's autumn here dammit and I want...

Email from my daughter brought tears to my eyes (merged thread)

Delmar, sounds like a pretty good trade-off. He'll love having his father's rifle, and dad will love having a son in the medical field who loves guns. (I wish my dad had liked guns so I could have had his when he was done with them).

saw a glass door gun case at kmart yesterday

Baba Louie summed it all up in his post. Not only have we "hidden" our firearms, we have caused an "out of sight, out of mind" atmosphere with ourselves and our youth. No longer are kids (or adults) afforded the opportunity to visit a friend's home and stare in awe at the glass gun cabinet...

Email from my daughter brought tears to my eyes (merged thread)

UPDATE! Thank you all for your kind words and suggestions. I decided to buy a 1973 Romanian bolt action, detachable magazine fed .22 rifle for her first gun. It is in very nice condition. The stock is a bit rough but I want to get her involved with the "refurbishing of the gun". I (we)...

    SHTF.... (not another fantasy)

I don't have an exorbitant amount of ammo - maybe 2000 rounds of various calibers, mostly 7.62x39 and .45 but enough to fend off bg's for a while I'm sure. And, I always buy more every payday. After reading the posts in this thread I'm convinced the best thing for me to do in a situation is...

    Best Mosin Nagant?

I started off with an M38, then I had to have an M44 so I got one. Next, I almost bought a 91/30 but passed, and instead bought a Steyr-Mannlicher 95. I'll probably go back and get the 91/30 to round out my Mosin-Nagant collection. Funny thing is, I bought all three within 3 weeks if each other.

Email from my daughter brought tears to my eyes (merged thread)

I think what I'll do is buy her a new .22 rifle and a new shotgun. Only because I really don't have anything suitable for a 13 year old except for the Savage .22 pump. When my time here on earth comes to a close she'll get everything I own anyway, so for now I think she should start out on a...

Email from my daughter brought tears to my eyes (merged thread)

Hey guys (and gals), I think I found the perfect firearm for my daughter!!! Springfield's Scout. It's a single shot .22 and a .410 all in one! It's a clone of the United States Air Force Survival Rifle. Whatta ya think?

Email from my daughter brought tears to my eyes (merged thread)

Thanks for the kind words guys. My father wasn't a hunter or a shooter when I was growing up and later in life I always wished I had a gun that was my dad's that I could cherish. Now, I'll have the opportunity to buy my daughter her first gun and hopefully this will be the one she keeps for...

    Kel Tech .380

I bought one about a month ago and shot 200 Winchesters through it the first time out. I only experienced one stove pipe. It packs a pretty impressive punch but I only use it as a BUG. Definitely a "close up and personal" gun and not a primary gun. S/N is 0027XX. Well worth the $229 I paid...

Email from my daughter brought tears to my eyes (merged thread)

Email from my daughter brought tears to my eyes Got home this evening and when I logged on I saw that I had mail. My 13 year old daughter knew I went duck hunting last Saturday and when I opened my mail she asked me if I would teach her how to hunt. She said the only thing she has shot is a...

    SHTF.... (not another fantasy)

Art, excellent info! Sounds like you're prepared. The only thing I'm lacking from your list is the generator. I was talking with my financial advisor and we got to talking about SHTF situations and he said a lot of people think money will get you through a SHTF scenario, but he told me...

    Shooter Snobbery

Newshooter. -- I disagree. I for one don't want the "norm" to be people dressed and ornamented like you to be the crowd at the gun shop. I don't want to "hang out" with people dressed like you. Why you ask? For one, you and your friends are more than likely a lot younger than me which means...

Fight or Flight - Do you have a plan for defending your home?

Some of the answers to my previous thread got me to thinking about "defending one's castle." Have you given any thought as to how you would defend your home if more than one bad guy was attempting to make entry? I have three different entrences to my home (not counting windows), and to be...
