    Oldest Ammo You'd Carry?

Shoot a few 12, 20, .22, and 7 mag loads from the seventies once in a while. Just about out of that old stuff, but it has proven to still go bang. That being said, everything I count on, I've loaded or purchased in the last 10 years. An awful lot to be said about the advances in low velocity...

    need your opinion

Pretty much mean: the details aren't important, just do your best to hang on to it.Even at a few hundred bux a year, sounds as if you're quite fortunate.

    need your opinion

Not really able to put two and two together on how or why you have the invite you have, but it really doesn't matter. Enjoy the benefits of hunting prime land and do whatever necessary (if at all possible) to continue the opportunity.

    Caution buying old primers

Just shot some CCI 200s weekend before last that I bought to load in a .243 I sold almost twenty years ago. Not a single issue. Over the years, have used primers well over twenty five years old without issue. I've got to agree that those were suspect from day one.

    GPS Tracker for Backcountry Excursions

I showed up at a large tract after dark several years ago that I'd never seen or set foot on. My Verizon phone was completely useless, but my Garmin E-Trex always knew exactly where I was. Made that trip far more enjoyable.

I need a place to hunt (IL)

I'd suggest driving far enough to find private farmers. You may be out of luck hunting all the critters you'd like to hunt this fall, but offering to rid them of their vermin, whatever that might be, is the best start I know of. You never know, you just might enjoy shooting g-hogs & yotes...

    Which 45-70 brass?

I've only been loading .45/70s a few months and have only used Starline new brass. Also bought a 20 pk of Lever Evolution cartridges from Hornady and those cases are shorter. Guess I'll use those to reload the 50 box of FTX 325 gr I have. The reason I bought 100 new Starline cases last...

    Depriming Live Primers

Started handloading in the seventies as a teenager. Couldn't resist the urge one day to show some other teens just how "safe" it was. I learned first hand that a CCI 250 heated to explosion will put a red dot on my unprotected eye (not to mention a crushed pride), and that I was extremely...

What does it sound like to get shot at?

Having one place to shoot 200-400 yds with a tall steep bank twenty or so feet from target is as close as I've come. Hearing whistle, impact and muzzle blast later is as close as I ever hope to come. Never forget the first time, buddy with a .270 blowing up dirt twenty feet away before a...

Should ALL Felons Regain Their Gun Rights Upon Completion of Sentence/Parole?

@ post 89. I was saying that if one can't be trusted to roam free, why are they free? Deadly force is easy to come by for anyone with ill intent.

Should ALL Felons Regain Their Gun Rights Upon Completion of Sentence/Parole?

I voted yes. If someone can't be trusted to own a gun, they shouldn't be trusted to live free among us at all.

    Extreme short range choice

Ain't buying that 7 /08 fragmenting bit. With proper bullets, that 7/ 08 will act at ten feet like a 7 mag does at 300 feet.

    Extreme short range choice

They are exactly equally acceptable at single digit distance. The only advantage of one over the other may come at hundreds of feet, where the 7 /08 would have a decided advantage, Up close. Which can you get on target with quickest and feel more comfortable using?

    cleaning help

Cotton patches are what I've always preferred. Sure doesn't mean everyone should prefer them though. Sounds like you may have the wrong bore guide for your model, or something else is wrong? I'd double check on that. ;) You could always insert your coated rod in "empty" then pull it back...

    Bumper Stickers vs Open Carry

I don't open carry because I feel that puts me at a tactical disadvantage. I do however have a NRA life and a BCM sticker on my truck. (doubt many of the hard core trash side even knows what Bravo Company USA even stands for) I realize that gun stickers on a vehicle may make it more likely...

    40 S&W for deer hunting

Hmm. Have a couple .40 SWs that have been included in "my" ballistic testing. They usually penetrate plenty to humanely kill deer and open up adequately with proper bullets, (HSTs, Gold Dots, XTPs are three I'd trust) but the "sport" of hunting doesn't need to be pushed any farther than...

Do you carry a back up gun varmint hunting? Any kills with it?

Good. Killing a varmint by the toughest doable humane means sometimes feels better to me too. Some folks just don't realize the CCW law here and wanted to make sure. ;) I didn't just tell on myself, did I? :o

Shooting from a rest to test pistol accuracy-How?

egd, Ideally, let the front half of the pistol rest solid on sandbags or such while the butt rests on something solid like a concrete or wood bench. If you're only interested in the capabilities of the gun, remove yourself as completely as possible, as in just make sure it goes bang with as...

Do you carry a back up gun varmint hunting? Any kills with it?

Oh Yea, You and I both know the ORC says "concealed guns can not be used to shoot at or kill wild animals". Right?
