    Dillon 550 primer feed issue

I've run into primer feed problems only when the slider bar became gunked up and once when I screwed the primer tube cap on too tight and crunched the plastic tip that dispenses the primers. I'd take it apart and clean as previously recommended.

    243 cal. range day test

I've an Ithica LSA-55 which is a Tikka import. Not sure of the twist, but it shoots 100gr Partitions over 40.0gr IMR-4350 VERY well. If you want to stick with those 100+gr bullets, try using a slower burning powder and varying the powder charge to see whether you can find a good recipe. The...

removing .223 crimps with a drill bit

I also think that too much material was removed. I use this Hornady product purchased from Midway Hornady primer pocket reamer - small. The reamer is designed to both remove the crimp inside the pocket as well as put a slight chamfer on the lip of the pocket. It is also available in the two...

    Quick MIDWAY question

+1 Just call them and ask. I doubt though that they have space to be storing who knows how many customer orders waiting until something comes in. And, you'd have to pay up front for those items being held. Probably not an available service realizing their costs of doing this. Then again...

small primer .45 acp brass what to do??

Kraylon, since your father lives close and also reloads, why not go halves on equipment needs. More likely than not, you both will not need the same tool at the same time.

    Question about mineral spirits

Daniel, I used to use unscented mineral spirits but have switched to paint thinner as it does the same excellent job of cleaning at a much more reasonable cost. In my experience, your cases WILL come out much cleaner and shinier than using media by itself or media + polish. Use 2-3 tablespoons...

small primer .45 acp brass what to do??

Kraylon, although the manufacturers state that the small primer 45acp brass is not reloadable, it definitely is. I do not recall where I read this information, but use your regular 45acp recipe and expect appx. 30fps less velocity with the small primer. Admittedly, they are a pain to keep...

    !@#$% Berdan primers.....

I've become fond of the Lee dies for that reason. On their FL dies, the depriming mandrel fits into a collet and if the resistance is too great, ie Berdan, it will slide up in the collet thus saving the pin. You simply un-torque the nut, slide the mandrel back to the lower position and retighten.

    Powder that flows like water

I use BL-C2 for .223 on my 550b and get excellent consistency between throws. Must admit I haven't tried any other powders for .223, yet.

How to Use a Chrono Better

1858, I would suggest you place your Chrony as far from the muzzle as the display cable will allow. I found that at appx. 10 feet, I kept getting errors on my Beta Master (late afternoon, no sun, with shades) and could only get 2 readings on 20 rounds from my AR. If you have a good sunny...

    .223 load recipes

I'll offer up this one for general low cost plinking: 55gr Winchester bulk FMJBT over 26.5gr BL-C2, Win SR at a COL of 2.215. BL-C2 is a ball powder which measures like water. Some reloading guides recommend magnum primers when using ball powder to obtain better ignition. I haven't found the...

Drill Press As A Case Trimmer???

You might want to look at the Possum Hollow case trimmer and the power attachment available for it. That's what I use. Once you set the trim length, lock the trimmer in the power adapter, insert power adapter in a variable speed drill and go to town. Some guy, not me, made a YouTube video of...

    Cleaning lube off .223 brass

I tumble after FL sizing and before trimming the cases. I personally don't like handling the cases coated with lube. Using walnut with mineral spirits, I do not have much of a problem with media in the flash hole. I do keep a small paper clip on the bench just in case any is found during my...

That's what I guessed also, some sort of vibrating unit.

Lee Dies in a Dillon 550B

I use Lee dies on my 550b for 9mm, 45acp and 223. They work fine although the lock nut/"O" ring is less preferred than the split lock ring with screw used on RCBS dies. I do use the separate Lee Factory Crimp Die for 9 & 45 as it applies a taper crimp, not roll crimp, and insures that any bell...

    chronograph

Chrony Beta Master I've been reloading since '82 and finally obtained a Chrony Beta Master unit at Christmas. It seems to be a good unit with a lot of capabilities, more than most people would probably want. It CAN be confusing due to it's numerous capabilities. I do like the idea that the...

Se length on Possum Hollow case trimmer?

I presume you are trimming bottleneck cases.... After setting my PH trimmer and testing the set trim length on a few FL sized cases, I ran a lot of some 4-500 thru the trimmer. Using the drill adapter in a variable speed drill set on low rpm, it didn't take too long. I randomly checked a...

Dings in the top of the neck. Do you discard them?

It would depend upon further inspection of the mouth after running the case thru a resizing die. If acceptable, keep a close watch on that lot of cases for premature case mouth splitting due to a overworked area.

    What powder for .223/5.56?

280, your question really should have been posted in a new thread. As to pulling and reloading with lighter weight bullets, unless you know the exact powder used in the military loading and have load tables for that powder, do not attempt to use it for reloading lighter bullets.

    223 bullets

If you already own Winchester FMJBTs, why not just load up a few batches at various charges and find out whether they will shoot well in your firearm?. Don't simply discount them because of the name without trying them. Remember, every firearm has different likes/dislikes. The most accurate...
