    Need a car gun

PET PEEVE ALERT Leaving a gun in a car, or any other mode of transportation is not a good idea. Leaving a loaded pistol in your car will enable any junior-high school drop-out, with the right combination of drugs and balls to break into your car looking for spare change or CD's and viola'...

Most accurate handgun you've ever fired?

Perhaps THE MOST ACCURATE handgun I've ever fired was a match grade 1911a1 that I shot with as a member of the 11th Naval District Pistol Team. It was custom built for me by the USMC Small Arms Training unit in 1967. Sadly, they wouldn't let me take it with me when I was discharged. A...

    Why is dry firing bad?

Dry firing is a very legitimate training drill. If you have doubts, buy some "snap caps" and dry-fire away.

Looking for a good CCW/Home Defense Gun Combo

I wouldn't overlook a .45 acp. I know many women who prefer how the 1911 fits their hands. You are most certainly going about the selection in the right way. Show the options, get out of their way and let them decide. Too many guys make the mistake of picking out "something for the little...

if you absolutely had to use a .22 for self defense?

CCI cranks out quality ammo, and they have a wide selection. Most of my .22 lr firearms perform best with CCI Mini-Mag ammo. We do the best we can with what we have. As I enter the autumn of my life, I often reflect on which handgun I will ultimately be able to shoot best if recoil should...

    Carry Your Duty Weapon?

With a reasonable amount of training, and the proper mental attitude, it is very possible to master different platforms simultaneously. Be careful of some of the books and magazine articles you see. With some you are just getting some other guy's opinion, or the opinion of an advertiser.

what is your "Just Because" Firearm? and Why?

1889 Springfield, .30-40 Krag-Jorgenson. Why? Historical value as the first US Military smokeless repeating rifle, used during the Spanish-American War (1898) and had the shortest service life of any US Military firearm. My wife, a Norwegian, liked it so much, she bought it from me. She wrote...

    Stopping Power

There's just no way to know what bullet will do what to which body. I've seen large dope filled bikers go down with one .22 lr round to the head, and I've seen bad guys take a load of buckshot center mass and keep on fighting. There simply is no such thing as a one-shot, magic bullet, which is...

    Evolving tastes in firearms

My firearm choices are always evolving, and sometimes re-volving. Over the years I've amassed a pretty good collection (3 safes full) of both handguns and long guns for me to select from. My current carry pistol is a Springfield XD .40 sub-compact and S&W j-frame +P as an on-duty backup...

    Who carries a small caliber?

My personal minimum caliber for primary carry is .38 spl +P, in the form of a S&W 642, during hot weather. During the seasons where I can comfortably wear a cover garment, it is one of my auto pistols that begin with the number "4". Backup carry, is the aforementioned .38 spl during cooler...

    tsa approved ammo storage boxes?

I simply use the ammo manufacturer's box the ammo came in. When I fly, it is usually Alaska Airlines, or Southwest. I have never had an occasion where someone weighed the ammo.

How would they know? While you are renting the room, that room becomes your home. None of their business.

    Magnum Force with Dirty Harry

Yup, being old school, I have a warm spot in my heart for my revolvers. My original police duty gun (1971) was a S&W mod. 19, .357 magnum. I still own it, shoot it and love it. Not so easy to carry concealed though.

What is the last gun that you bought?

I don't think I've bought it yet. My most recent purchase is a little NAA .22 magnum pocket rocket. Useful for puttering around the house or taking out the trash and for fighting my way to my major caliber guns.

NAA 22lr revolver and snake shot?

Discharging a firearm at someone is deadly force, and is justified if that someone is trying to hurt or kill you. If someone is trying to kill you, why would you just want to piss them off? :fire: They call it snake shot for a reason. Works well on injured birds too. In my NAA .22...

In the current edition of the American Rifleman, there is an article about Sons of Guns. Bottom line, like them or hate them, it is entertainment.

    Shooters On A Budget

I'm pretty happy with what I have right now, with nothing hot on my "want" list. When I see something I want, if I can't afford it, I go without, but I feel that my collection is at a point where there is nothing else I really want. I have 4 or 5 carry guns, a few revolvers, a couple of...
