    New Hunters in Ca

Great information everyone, thank you. I'm checking out jesseshunting.com and the calgun hunting sub-forum now. We'd planned on starting with deer and maybe graduating to other big game after a few years experience, but now it sounds like pigs may be a better bet. Good to know. I'm not...

    New Hunters in Ca

Hello all. A friend and I have decided that we want to go deer hunting in California (we both live in the Bay Area). He’s just finished a 2 month primitive wilderness survival course in Washington that included a little rifle and bow hunting, so he’s bringing the stalking, navigation and...

    Dry-firing damage

Not always true. 10/22s for example have a firing pin stop that keeps the firing pin from extending past the bolt face farther than the rim thickness of a 22, so the firing pin never hits the barrel/chamber. If you want to know if you can dry-fire a 22, disassemble it and push the firing pin...

Wood rifle stock fans speak up!

I haven't seen many good write-ups of hydro-dipped stocks so I'll post a thread about it when it comes back.

Wood rifle stock fans speak up!

Does it count if I'm having my recently built fiberglass stock hydro-dipped to look like wood? (Needed fiberglass to keep the weight down for competition)

    Small bore competiton rifle cleaning

This. I clean my smallbore gun once a year, about a month before the state championships (FYI I shoot ~1000-1500 rounds through the gun in that time). That puts one local match between the cleaning and state so I know it'll be settled in.

    Need Metallic Silhouette shooting pointers

Two thoughts: 1) Preload your trigger as much as possible. This means a LOT of dryfire practice, but if you have a trigger with a consistent pull, you should be able to take up 60%+ of it before you get on the animal. That way you don't have to pull the full 2lbs+ all at once. This is...

Shot my first metallic silhouette match last Sunday

If you're handloading, you may want to develop two loads, a light load for chicken, pigs and turkeys (CPT) and a full power one for rams. You can check the steel chickens forum for specifics.

Bought AR Lower Kit - Any Fluff-n-Buff Needed Before Assembly?

This. Put a block of wood or something under the trigger guard when you're driving the pin to keep it from breaking. Also, use tape to protect the finish when you're driving the roll pin for the bolt release. Finally, some people tap the hole for the detent for the rear takedown pin. Tapping...

Considering a caliber change from 9mm to .40 for uspsa(reload/cast)

I don't think it's the worst idea to shoot Limited Minor, keep in mind you get a capacity advantage out of it in addition to the reduced recoil. There are a couple of guys around me who shoot Limited 9 quite well. Now, whether they would place better or worse if they were shooting 40, I don't...

    MarkIII hunter V-notch sites.

Agreed. I bought mine as an upgrade over the regular MkIII for target work. Never liked the sights, so I put a red-dot on it. Didn't like the red--dot and ended up selling the Hunter and keeping my original MkIII.

    Missouri Bullet order

Can someone PM me the code, and maybe tell me how much of a discount it is? I need to price some new 25-20 and 30-30 loads.

    Rifle Metallic Silhouette competition

+1 on the good scope, I would not try the fixed 40X until you are VERY stable. I've yet to see a Master or AAA shooter using higher than 35X, and those guys are rock-solid. That Nikon will serve you well for a good long while. When I was shooting a variable-power scope I would turn it all the...

Would you buy a two stage progressive/ turret hybrid press?

I'd be curious how you're going to resize and flare in one operation. I haven't seen any existing die sets that do that, and requiring customers to buy proprietary dies is a sure way to kill the market before it even starts.

    Just for fun... USPSA

Some clubs occasionally have BUG-only matches. Fewer if any reloads mid-stage, generally short stages and not official USPSA so you can run smaller calibers. I would think this might be more appropriate there. I've been waiting for one for a while so I can run a Sauer 38H (.32 ACP single stack).

    Target Frame Backing

My club uses tar paper. Lasts about a month getting battered by the public before it gets torn out and replaced.

Good to know. Anyone have a load using Fed 209 primers, e3 powder and STS hulls?

Super Fast Shotgun Reloading. What do you think?

Look up the quad load. It's a new-ish technique in 3-gun that people are using go load 8 rounds into a shotgun in ~3.5 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1AQAI8cJs8
