Remington 700 Bolt - Is this normal?

The brass is normal, all rifles with rotating extractors do this. They scrape a little brass as they rotate around the rim during extraction. I don't believe the notch is normal, but under normal circumstances, unlikely to cause a problem. DPSTX

What is the difference between a .243 and 30-30?

The main difference between the 2 is in the ballistics. The 30-30 has the power to drop a deer at longer ranges than it's typically used, but it gets more difficult to hit them well because the bullet starts to drop pretty fast. 243 shoots about 1000fps faster and has much higher ballistic...

What can you tell me about a Win mod 70

In many ways, the post-'68 push feed actions are better than the CRF, especially, the pre-64, as I don't know all the details of the newer CRF. The only operational disadvantage of the push-feed is the theoretical potential of a feed jam as previously described. The pushfeeds used a forged...

    Oddball competition guns.

How's this for an oddball gun..... A common style in our competition, but strange by most outsiders standards.... Push feed single shot M70 Win in 243. 27.5in Kreiger barrel with 12" extension. Stock and shoulder hook by me. Shot in competition with open sights and a barrel rest. weighs...

    The Winchester Model 70

Sorry about this being an old thread, but I came across it during a google search and it got my attention. Ever since I bought my own 1973 pushfeed, G-serialed Model 70A,.243, (in 1981, I was 14, it was used..) I have loved it. The Monte Carlo stock design of this era was perfect, and...

How did you get your first firearm?

My first gun was my winchester 37 20 ga. Purchased for $50, used. Bought a shotgun because my dad and I hunted cottontails with a beagle on our brushy 75 acre ranch. Still have it, won't sell it....even though I haven't shot it in over 15 years

How accurate is your rifle at 34,000 yards?

Math Problems..... Gotta love math, my calculations are thus..... Formula for circumference of a circle is C = 2piR or piD where R=radius, D=diameter. c= 2 x 34000 x pi = 68000 x3.14.... which = 213628yds circumference. divide this by 360 degrees and you get 593.4 yds per degree...

What is the BEST 22lr Rifle out there?

Winchester 52, in production for about 60years, always top of the heap. My sporterized 1920 custom has produced the occasional 1/4" group at 100yds, 3/8" more common.....

    Best Tackdriving .22?

My 52C match rifle impressed me so much, I wouldn't settle for any less than a 52 for a sporting rifle, so I sold my Marlin 781 and went looking. found an already modified very early 52 on Auctionarms that I got for $225. I replaced the stock and did alot of modifications to the bolt and such...

    Under appreciated rifle?

Far and away, the Post 64 Model 70, gun writers killed it. While the first 5 or so years the gun had some issued with fit and finish, but since those were solved, there was no reason at all to put it down, especially compared to its main competitor, the rem 700. The pre-64s were good rifles...

Should your best rifle be a 22LR?

I guess it would depend on your definition of "best." My Model 70 243 is the prettiest of my rifles but both of my 22lr's will out shoot it. They're both Win 52's, one is 88 years old and I've spent $700 buying, customizing and scoping it, and it shoots 3/8" groups at 100yds. The second is my...
